Stumbled upon Wai Kee in Bowrington Road market last September and have been in love ever since. This food stall was originally a Dai Pai Dong run by Mr. Chan’s parents. The location moved to the ‘experimental’ cooked food centre in 1979 where it stands today. The name of the game here is a mutton curry served with rice($ 35) or take away a larger portion for $ 50. The mutton is simmered in what I would call an Indonesian stylet thin curry sauce that is fragrant, spicy and delightful. The bones stewed for hours adds to the richness of the broth that when mixed with the rice is a beautiful thing. Mr. Chan himself is a very friendly guy, and despite the fact that this place serves Halal meat– you can order a beer no sweat. Of course do remember cash only please.
