Wan Chai Post Office

I have to love the efficiency of the HK Post office, compared to the likes of USPS, and Royal Mail (but on par with Canada post, Japan and Deutsche Post). Cheap as chips to send air mail back to North America/​Western Europe compared to the prices to ship this way and efficient despite the long queues (over 20 minutes at this location). Id’d recommend if you are heading to Kennedy Town to use that Post Office if you can or any place in the Southern District if you are heading that way since the queues are likely to be quite long here.

This is a fairly large size post office offering all the regular services you would expect. There is paythrupost, stamps, parcel mail, local mail, and plenty of space to fill out your forms and paperwork if you have not done so before you arrive.
The customer service that I received was stellar. I was surprised, coming from the United States postal service. However, I needed to see 2 different people at 2 different windows because I was sending several large parcels as well as some smaller pieces of mail. Both were quite helpful and friendly, even though I had lots that I needed their help with.
I visited during the busy Christmas and holiday season, but the lines were not that bad, and I got all of my business done in a relatively short amount of time. Also, nobody bothered me when I left the large suitcase but I brought all of my packages in on one side of the room underneath the counter. I think that if I was to do something similar in America, some security guard would’ve come up to hassle me immediately. Hahaha.
If you are mailing several large parcels like I was, keep in mind that there is an escalator up to the second floor of this building, so you don’t have to lug your burden up the stairs. Happy posting!
