Hostinec u Matěje Kotrby

Ate here by accident tonight. My wife and I are American tourists and went to a restaurant recommended in Rick Steve’s tour book. We entered about 9:00pm and were give menus and told that anything that was listed as Czeck specialties, they were out of. We left.
U Mateje Kotrby, down the street looked cool so we went in and sat at a table. It had pretzels hanging on a rack on the table which were for eating with the beer, really good.
My wife ordered Party Schnitzel, half chicken, half pork. The best schnitzel ever. Both were good and plentiful.
I ordered half a duck. It came out on its own spit and was huge. I mean HUGE. I cut off the breast and thought that it was huge. The skin was very crispy. As I started to eat it, my wife also had a taste, we realized that it wasn’t duck but some kind of pig leg. The German couple next to us we’re also laughing because they knew I ordered duck and what i got certainly wasn’t duck
I figured that the «pig leg“was so good, I might as well eat it. Truthfully it was some of the best food that I’ve even eaten in Prague. I would recommend eating here because my mistake was great. I would guess that the language difference is what caused the mix up. I’m glad it did.
I can’t say strongly enough that if your looking for that «Prague» experience, this is the place to eat.
The wait staff was wonderful. Such a refreshing, nice women, that really cared that my meal was good. Just didn’t have the heart to tell her that I got the wrong food. Glad I didn’t, what I got was fantastic.
