I’ve got a Chinese wife and, as you might not realise, cuts of meat are different in different countries. The guys at Turnbulls are great at taking the time to explain the different cuts and are quite willing to try cutting meat Chinese style to make her happy. They do charge a bit more than supermarkets, but the knowledgeable service is worth it and they have regular special offers and discounts that may surprise you. Their ready meals are an interesting touch and nothing like the supermarket variety well worth a try. The hot food takeaway section is surprisingly good too. Greggs it ain’t.

Top quality butcher’s shop selling locally produced beef and lamb, plus all the rest of their meat is British and sourced locally wherever possible. I visited on Burns’ night and they were advertising homemade haggis too. On the opposite side of the shop there is a sandwich counter which provides breakfast rolls with bacon, sausage etc. There’s a good range of lunchtime sandwiches and also a hot carvery, pies, pasties and soups. They also sell a range of greengrocery items including fruit, veg, chutneys and dried fruits. To top the lot they also sell home made ready meals and provide outside catering too! Lovely produce and well worth a visit.

A cracking butchers shop. Never had poor quality from them in 10 years. Helpful friendly staff and skilled butchers who know what they are talking about. Tends to get busy so you have to queue but that’s a good sign.

A first class butchers with an excellent deli counter. Has high class fruit and veg. Stocks many different and unique ready meals. It is expensive. The lamb pin wheels are lovely and the sausages are to die for. The shop is clean and well lit. Staff are friendly and helpful.
