How to solve a problem like a fast passing lunch time? Well in my case it was head to somewhere that looks clean, fresh and offers a tasty selection of sandwiches in a chilled out setting. Alti is a funny place nowadays. There’s basically some really great places in this town such as the Belgian bars, Pi, Dilli and some lovely looking restaurants, but it doesn’t help things when the high street around it is mostly boarded up just making it all look a bit messy. So it was great to see Y Mcgregor yesterday looking just the sort of place I wanted to go for a simple sandwich while out and about for meetings. The place looked lovely inside, mainly mums and older family members meeting up but again it all looked like it was somewhere that’s looked after and they take pride in being on Alti high street. Unfortunately I can only give it 3 stars at the moment as a few things let it down. First off it was only 245pm but most of the bread options were gone(they make a big deal of the different types they serve) and I ended up with supermarket sliced white for my beef sandwich(£2.80). This wasn’t the end of the world but they didn’t take cards and there’s no wifi — which was a shame as I’d have been quite keen on hanging out in here for an hour and having a coffee after lunch and getting some work done. Overall a good option if you’re after a sandwich or casual lunch in Alti.

We ate here last weekend and the food was really fresh and inviting. Had the 3 bean soup and a veggie sandwich and my friend had the tuna — mayo. My sandwich had tasty brown bread and we both enjoyed the meal. Good value for money — friendly atmosphere and easy to find.

It was very quiet in here the other day. I quite liked that. It gave me a chance to sit down with my chicken paprika pasta and catch up on the news. Ordinarily this wouldn’t have been my first choice for a spot of lunch, for some reason I’ve always passed it by, but it turns out to be quite a decent café. The emphasis here is very much on health, quality and organic produce, which makes the prices a little steeper than your average lunch but you can definitely taste the goodness. The only thing I would say is that there seems to be a lack of real atmosphere which could easily be fixed by perhaps some music.

I’ve been at ‘YMcGregor’ quite a few times because I live and work locally. I always take people there if I need to have a quite business meeting. They are always very welcoming and friendly especially Jo, the owner. They make fantastic smoothies and their coffee is delicious.

This is a lovely little café in Altrincham. It is right on the main road which runs through the town centre so it is very easy to find, however parking may be a problem if you visit the café by car. The café sells a lot of healthy food. They have a refridgerated area which contains pre-prepared sandwiches made with good quality local ingrdients, there are also pasta and salad bowls too. The main lure to this café is for their delicious smoothies. They have a big board with lots of different smoothie combinations on but you can request your own mix of fruits/veg too. It is a little bit on the pricey side but this is probably due to the locally sourced food and the location of the café.
