Can be hit or miss when it comes to the food… but the cocktails always make up for it! I’d recommend the raspberry Mojito… delicious

I heard stories about the food here and I wish I had listened. Hubby and I went for sunday carvery and it was the worst thing I’d ever had. Firstly we had to wait to be seated and they weren’t busy. Then you order your starter off the menu and it’s served to you. I had prawn cocktail: frozen salad prawns on a bit of greens. Hubby had what was described as garlic bread on the menu. He got 4⁄5 small rounds of french stick with garlic butter on it and it looked like it had been grilled. We went up to the carvery. Choice of beef, turkey or pork. The beef had the life cooked out of it and the others looked pathetic. I had beef, roasties, parsnips, yorkshire pud and broccoli. The beef was dry, the roast spuds weren’t, parsnips were actually good and when I went to put a piece of broccoli in my mouth hot water dripped off of it onto my «chest». I never thought I would hear hubby say roast beef is dry… but he did(he likes his meat«well done») He said the turkey breast was more moist!!! The yorkshire pud was horrendous. It was like paper. It was the weirdest thing. i couldnt eat it and discretely removed it from my mouth. Any carvery we’ve been to you are welcome to refills. Not this one. Too bad we didn’t know that when we got there. Had to order dessert from the menu. Mine was ok. deep dish apple pie. Hubby’s sliver of chocolate fudge cake was drowning in sickly sweet chocolate sauce. He couldn’t eat it all as it was just too sweet. The service was ok. Young girls mostly that had no idea what was going on(not their fault) Needless to say was left hungry and disappointed. TIP: The Clarion down the road has a great carvery. Make sure you book ahead and if you pay over the phone you get a discout.

I recently went to the point on a Saturday Afternoon after playing football in that neck of the woods. We stopped in for a few victory pints and were taken back by the hospitality of the place. The bar is crisp and clean combining a stone and pine wood effect to create a Scandinavian theme thus adding class. But do not worry there was nothing foreign about the drinks prices, £2.50 for a Harp and standard £3 for a bottle of beer or cider. The bar is very open and had plenty of room to accommodate our large group. The food was top notch, we had bar snacks but were all full up after them as the portions were more like meal size. Sausages, ribs and chips with generous lashings of sweet chilli sauce, hard to beat really. The added bonus of the Point is that they show 3pm Premier League football all be it in Italian TV. But this seems to attract the day time crowd and makes for a lively atmosphere. I really liked the place and will definitely pay it another visit.

David Byrne scoffs at people who say they love music. Sure, everybody says they love music. I’ve been to Harbour Point a couple of times, but after the last time, won’t be going back. People say that you look back and laugh at certain stuff, but I still flinch when a Harbour Point memory comes bubbling to the surface. It wasn’t that the food or service was that bad(though both were distinctly average), and the surroundings were nice enough for a newish restaurant. But there was something wrong with the music system, and my wife and I were subjected to the same two songs over and over. Rubbish songs, too: ‘Minimal’ by Pet Shop Boys, and ‘Runaway’ by Jamiroquai. Over and over again, for an hour and a half. I had to be calmed down and talked out of shouting at the staff. My head was in my hands after a while. I was all ready to make a scene when one of the similarly suffering diners had a quiet word with the waitress. It sounds trite to be complaining about a busted CD player. But I was contemplating tearing my hair out. Listen to the following for 45 minutes and you’ll see what I mean:

Bar is excellent. Really good atmosphere and average priced drinks. Anyone who says there is often trouble at the bar is exaggerating. I’ve never seen trouble as the bar is one of the more friendly in the town. I recommend completely. The restaurant is the reason the place can’t be given five stars. The food is not very good, cooked from frozen and over priced. Simple as that. But make sure to visit the bar.

Went here last Sunday for a wee drive with the girlies for a spot of lunch and some ‘light’ refreshment… well ahem. a bloody big drink to be honest! It had some positive points, like the view and the service, both of which were lovely, and it was a gorgeous day so the view was terrific actually. But I’m not a fan of the C-word — yes you guessed it… Children. Ugh. Now, I know I’m in the minority here and most people either have children, or like children, but when I’m out on a relaxing Sunday jaunt — I don’t want to eat my lunch in a crèche. There was no check on these kids they were just ‘running free’ and totally bugged me. Sorry — anyway back to the food — I had the mushroom risotto which was a little dry and the rice wasn’t quite right. Although my friends all enjoyed their food and one in particular finished with a hot chocolate which she raved about. I think I would come back here, but most likely when all the kids in Carrickfergus have been collected up and deposited in a big ball pit.

The restaurant is great, lovely bright modern décor, efficient staff and great food. The menu is vast and there’s something for everyone, even veggies! The prices are very reasonable too. The bar next door is a different matter. At weekends there tends to be some trouble, not all the time but pretty frequently enough to stop me going. Overall, I’d recommend the restaurant btu don’t hang around for a drink!

i think that the point as a building is a very attractive one and inside the décor is very tasteful and attractive. I went here for a meal and I have to say i thoroughly enjoyed my meal, although it was slightly overpriced. Upstairs in the point is a themed restaurant suitable for kids, although I have not been here. The restaurant always seems quite busy when I go past, although the same can not be said for the bar-it always seems pretty empty, although I assume this changes at the weekend. Word of warning though-I think there can be a strict dress code for the bar, as i know of people turned away for wearing trainers.

Great location for a restaurant overlooking the old harbour area directly across this harbour is the historical Carrickfergus Castle, built and openned a couple of years ago, you would think this place would be a winner. I am rating it for its food in the restaurant as that’s what I have personal knowledge of. Unfortunately my experience was not good as my meal was completely tasteless, in fact, the one star is awarded for a nice bowl of chips served with my meal. I am actually astounded that any one could manage to produce something entirely devoid of taste. There is something about the company tha towns the Harbour Point that is less than impressive, for example lookat their website at . Enough said
