Let me start by saying — these pastys are amazing! So I don’t live near Ashford and don’t get to have these pastys that often, but when I know I’m heading in that direction its my first though for lunch. I actually didn’t have my own pasty for the longest time. My boyfriend started ordering one pasty, which quickly changed to two pastys and I would just nibble the crusts. My nibbling of the crusts progressed to actual bites until he could share no more and I had to order my own!!! I have tried a few different ones but my top three are; 1. Bacon, leaks and cheese. 2. Pork and apple. 3. Cheese. They also do the traditional pasty and others such as curry vegetables, Thai chicken and a special each month. Because there is such a turn over, they always seem to be freshly cooked. Which means they have to be eaten slowly otherwise its really easy to burn your mouth. Luckily my boyfriend doesn’t like the crusts as much as me, so I get my pasty and his crusts! Driving away the other day I said how cool it would be to buy them frozen and cook at home. I quickly corrected myself — yes it would be cool, but they wouldn’t last the night!

The Pasty Presto store in Ashford is by far the best one that I have visited. The food was great, yet what made it the best was the charming shop assistant, Chloe, who made my visit all the more worthwhile.

A much smaller than other Cornish pasty places — they have perhaps a dozen UK shops — this one at the Designer Outlet mall in Ashford is a pleasant place to grab a bite between shops. It’s got lots of chairs and tables, and is a little more café-like than most fast-food or takeaway spot. They use local and organic ingredients wherever possible, and the pork in my pork-and-apply pasty was certainly roughly hand-chopped, and not at all machine-precision-cut. My pasty was, in fact, way too hot to eat for quite a while, though this is a better extreme than too cold.
