I will not tell you how long I have been going to this pub and how many changes it has made over the years, but it is a lot. It is thought to have been built from ship timbers in the 1700s and watering hole for the famous highwayman Dick Turpin. Sadly over the years it became something other than a comfortable place with beams lower than my forehead and went all pinball and jukebox on me. It has calmed right back down and is starting to serve food again, although by no means can it be called a gastropub, and the clientele is getting a little more civilized. I think it has lost most of its character, but it is still a decent place, serving a good pint in pleasant surroundings, just not a destination for a special evening. On the up side, they now have parking, as the old High Street is just wide enough for a wain with two oxen.

A quaint old pub, with a few decent ales to choose from. The bar staff can be pretty frosty, and I have never known such a variance in beer price! A lunchtime pint of Summer Lightning was £2.00 while an evening pint of Tangle Foot was £3.40! It was at least excellent quality, although I’ve occasionally had a duff pint. The outdoor seating area is great during the day, when it’s in the sun, but by mid-to-late afternoon it’s all in shade. Not a bad pub at all.
