Set adjacent to the green in the picturesque village of Baslow is the Café on the Green. Having walked passed it on our stroll to Chatsworth House, we were impressed by its menu and sunny outlook, so we called in for breakfast one morning. The cakes on display looked so inviting and its the first time I’ve seen cornflake cake since I was at school! As it was breakfast time though, we confined our menu choices the wide variety of breakfasts on offer, from toast to the requisite Full English. We plumped for scrambled eggs and poached eggs on toast, well presented and freshly cooked, but just a little under-seasoned. It didn’t really matter overly though, listening to the radio, in comfortable surroundings, revelling in the fact that we were on holiday, more than made up for it. The menu for the rest of the day was equally tempting with fresh sandwiches, hot meals etc. Pity we never got the chance to return, I’m sure we will in the future.
