If you are someone like me who loves a bargain, you would need to be absolutely nuts to bypass a shop that is actually called ‘Luv a Bargain’ You can literally find anything in here, it’s a jack of all trades, especially if you are after home/car goodies. They also have lots of little home and garden ornaments, these would not be the classiest of items, but they are there anyway, if that’s your cup of tea. I got myself one of those ‘valet in a can’ things in an attempt to spruce the inside of my car up, plus some air fresheners and a dash mat to keep my phone and other nik-naks in place. The whole lot only came to £4. Bargain! They are centrally located and if you get there early enough you can get parked on the street, if not, there are lots of spaces in the nearby car parks.

This wee shop has been around in Bangor for a while and has benefited from the closure of Woolworths, this has become one of the places to go in Bangor to pick up household bargains. You can pick up the likes of bath mats, tea towels, ornaments of every ilk, Northern Irish and Bangor souvenirs and towels. The staff in here are friendly and helpful and have always been polite any time I have been in. In fact, I have worked in retail a lot and know that working in this type of place is no fun at all so fair play that they are always bright and smiley, despite probably being bored quite a lot of the time. This store is based on Main Street which means it is really easy to get to as well as having plenty of parking around and if you get lucky you may even get lucky and get parked right outside.

Surprisingly, this shop name was not invented by me, and it is genuinely called«Luv A Bargain». Strange, I know. Since it generally sums me in one sweeping phrase, I naturally had to satisfy my curiosity and take a wee nosey into this bargainous land of goodies. Walls filled with discounted household goods, such as bath mats, towels, tea-towels, as well as random commodities such as cheap glasses(as in the spectacle kind), Northern Irish souvenirs, ornaments and the like. On a quiet Wednesday afternoon in Bangor, myself and one other equally curious customer were the only two people in the shop. I did get a bit of a fright when I walked past a fixture containing dozens of coloured towels, to discover the sales assistant sitting on a stool on the other side. Luckily I wasn’t up to anything unwarranted, and clearly the only reason in her sitting there was that she needed a seat, but she definitely caught me unaware. Recovering quickly, I dandered over to a pile of linen tea-towels, instantly thinking of my mum who loves them. At £1.50 a shot, I grabbed one with a green stripe, and dashed to the till. Had there been more than one colour, I would’ve taken more, but one green tea-towel was suffice. The sales assistant had, by this stage, moved to the till area, and was more than delighted to see me walking towards her with this potential purchase. Chatting away, she reiterated the amazing price of £1.50, I fired her some loose change and went on my merry way. £1.50! Boy, was my mum going to be mightily impressed. Indeed she was. «£1.50?!» exclaimed she. «Yep, and it’s a linen and cotton mix» replied I, somewhat smugly(that’s the affect finding bargains has on me). I don’t have a clue as to the rest of the stuff in ‘Luv a Bargain’, but they do some smashingly priced tea-towels. Just in case you hadn’t heard…
