This school is located on the edge of quite a rough area of Barry, but the catchment area includes all the surrounding towns (e.g. Rhoose, Llantwit Major) as well as the rest of Barry. It is a girls school, although in the 6th Form, some of the boys from Barry Comprehensive Boys School come over to join the girls for A level subjects. Over 90% of the teaching staff are female, but surprise, surprise, the plum job of head teacher is held by a male. This is not a trend setting school! Overall the reputation of the school is not too bad. However, there is a problem with levels of sick leave (in common with many inner city schools) and there is a steady stream of supply teachers taking classes.
