We chose a Tuesday lunchtime to visit here for lunch. Most places on the seafront were packed but this place seemed relatively quiet so we decided to eat here. This is formally known as the Dolphin and since the Dolphin days, it has declined in appearance and it didn’t seem very clean — especially the toilets which looked like they needed a complete re-fit. The tables in the restaurant were sticky and mis-matched. The staff were friendly and helpful, which was important because this was the only redeeming factor of our visit. The food was ok too though. However, we waited close to an hour to be served, even though there seemed to be plenty of staff and it wasn’t actually busy. As 2 parties of 3 who ordered together — the food came out at separate times which was a disappointment — especially as when one meal was prepared, it sat under hot lights until the next, and then the next was done. This did mean the chips were unappetising, but the rest was ok. If you do decide to eat here, please look out for the specials — there are 2 for £8 meals but they are poorly highlighted. Three meals and 3 cans of coke cost about £20. In my opinion, this was overpriced. I’d not choose to eat here again. They ran out of fish. The vegetarian options were omelette and vegetable lasagne. The children’s menu does not cater for vegetarians and the menu generally is limited in choice and very basic but one of the few places on the front where you can get(an overpriced) pint with your grub.
