Dirty, grimy, smell and very very sticky. We called in on a rainy Saturday afternoon. A mistake we will not be repeating. We had planned to go here for food but it was just awful. We couldnt find a clean table so sat at a dirty one instead. The bar staff came around to collect glasses but left all the remains of other people’s meals at the tables despite it not being that busy either. My arm stuck to the table so badly, i thought it was going to take off a layer of skin. As it was raining, there seemed to be a congregation of smokers in the doorway so the pub did smell of stale cigarette smoke. On entering and leaving the pub, you had to walk through a haze of blue air.

An ok pub as pubs go I.e. one for the masses, not up market

On a sunny day in Barry, the chairs and tables outside the Buccaneer are usually full of folks sat outside on the crowded pavement, sipping pints and watching the world go by. This pub is totally not my scene, it seems to have a ‘local people’ vibe to it and I see the regulars whenever I walk past so when I nipped in I did feel a little like I was intruding. Still, it’s a decent pub with decent prices, anywhere with a bottle of wine for £7 is a win for me and if you were so inclined, they do serve food. Children are welcome(and I’m not keen on children) and the regularly screen sports and events as well as having entertainment on the weekends. I’m sure it’s lovely, it’s just not for me.

Excellent pub, part of Smith and Jones chain. Well place in the heart of the town centre. 10 – 15 minute walk to Barry Docks train station. Taxis park up out the front at closing time. Food is good value, you can have everything from light bites and sharing platters to full meals. Good sunday roast. Plenty of different spirits and really good priced wine. Drinks deals put on regularly. Good for a meal for two of you, girl’s night out or a match day. Football and rugby matches shown regularly.
