An amicable hungover football knowledgable ‘tender elevated my drinking experience here above the ordinary with welcome friendly banter Unusually(and most welcomly) for an Irish pub, 2 real ales Doom Bar and Otter Ale(a good beer as usual). Sport was on but quiet and easy to ignore.

Marketed as an Irish pub but more of a sports bar that plays rock music really. Always seems to show the cricket, which is what drew me in. Wouldn’t say it’s cheap(£3.55 a pint of Heineken) but it’s certainly spit and sawdust. Predominantly male crowd, as you’d expect.

You might expect a faux Irish pub in the style of O’Neills and the like, but that’s not really what you get with Flan O’Briens. It’s not a chain, for a start and it’s also got a decent range of drinks available. They’re open pretty late on some nights, so if you’re out in Bath until the early hours, it’s likely that you might find yourself in here towards the end of the night. It can get pretty crowded at times, so you often have to fight your way to the bar/toilets, but that kind of adds to the vibe of the place This is definitely a drinkers pub, so don’t expect a lot of finesse.

Large Irish pub, fairly centrally located. Is a little bit of a spit and sawdust pub but then again is more authentic that a contrived chain like O’Neills. The drinks here are cheap and hence attract a studenty or sporty crowd. Does have live music acts on a weekly basis. Did use to stock the export Guinness which was a plus. Staff are friendly & helpful.
