«If you don’t like it, it’s ok». This is what the manager told us when, after half an hour we were waiting for the table we booked at 9.00pm, we asked why the table was not ready. I can understand that during a busy weekend you can have some delay, but in this case you can expect some kind of courtesy or commercial gesture to make you wait properly. But in this restaurant they don’t care. If you’re not happy, it’s the same(«it’s ok» as he said) and you can leave. So, this is what we did. Sorry, but I can’t give any comment on the food, but the reception and service is just terrible. Believe it or not, but it’s the first time of my life that I leave a restaurant because of a problem with the manager. Hope that it will be the last.

Rajpoot tandoori has skillfully accomplished a trifecta that I’ve rarely seen done by an Indian restaurant — they’ve combined incredibly poorly prepared(bad) food, with flawlessly horrible service, and ludicrously high prices. The fact that they bottle their own water(still *and* sparkling) and sell it for 3.50 per bottle alone is a sign that they’ve let a few good reviews go to their head, and have tried to capitalize on those tourists that head there expecting to get something good. First off, this place has an entrance that requires a walk down two flights of stairs — we had babies, kids and strollers, and they make no effort to tell people about the ground-level entrance around back(which they let us leave through after dinner.). Once you get downstairs, there’s a small bar with large bowls of «snacks»(no serving spoons, so dig in with your fingers!) — I would recommend avoiding those(they seem kind of shady — not sure how long they might have been sitting out.) On to the service — despite having pre booked a table(for 6:30 — quite early!) we waiting to be seated for around 15 minutes, despite there being few people seated. They were unable to provide us with two high chairs(they only had one, and it had seen better days.) we then waited another long while before the waiter came to take our orders. When we tried to get the attention of the wait staff, we were acknowledged, but told(rudely) «wait»(just the one word.) The food, despite being waaaay overpriced, was very bland, and not tasty at all. Things you come with the food at a regular place(such as papadam or rice) had to be ordered a-la-carte. When we complained about the blandness of the food, and asked for some hotter sauce(note: we had ordered a two chili item — supposedly the hottest item on the menu.) we were charged another £4.50 for it(literally, a bottle of sauce.). They were nice enough to tack on an additional service charge as well. To summarize, this place really ought to be put out of its misery — id avoid it at all costs… There are other indian places in bath, with seemingly much better reviews. Wish I had access to Unilocal when I was there to see them!

Food was uninspired but not terrible. 1. If you can’t do a few flights of stairs, this place isn’t for you. The restaurant is located below street level. 2. The rice is an extra charge and is a little pricey considering you get a very small amount. 3. Americans, when they say medium mild, that translates as super mild to what you’re used to 4. Vegans, I asked a waiter what on the veg list had dairy in it and he said none. I asked a second guy and turns out only 3 or 4 are ok. Double check!

What a dilemma about how many stars to give. Food was fantastic, really tasteful, great quality and plentiful. This is defiantly one of the best Indian eateries I have been too. The ordering of food was quickly and efficiently done. Popadoms arrived and then the wait. and a bit more If the restaurant get the order wrong guys its not the customers fault! And no we do not want to be asked every 5 minutes if we want drinks. Overall we had a pleasant evening and will return for another outing despite the staff.

Nice service, décor, but quality of freshness of food was lacking for lunch. We had the lunch special and I could tell from the appetizers which had difficulty cutting into a pastry that was a red flag on freshness. Vegetable curry was okay, I’ve had far better curry at ones at hole in wall places during my travels in the States and internationally.

I truly don’t understand these raving reviews. The food was nothing more than average, and the location, two levels below street level, is a bit gloomy and weird. Additionally the prices are overly high. At dinner, they had us sit at a table in the bar first, to peruse the menu and order. Then, after ordering, we were taken to our real table. I have never encountered this practice before and it was confusing and disorienting. In general, this seemed to be one aspect of this restaurant’s style being very formal. The curved ceilings in the dining room transport voices from one side to the other. So, you can hear every word of your neighbors’ conversation even though it’s across the room from you. This was a little too cozy. I had a better and more reasonably-priced(although more casual) Indian meal in Bath at Jamuna, across from the Abbey, and which offers a spectacular view as well.

Very tasty Indian fare at a reasonable price. King prawn biryani was excellent as well as the garlic naan. The bar had only one beer on tap. Overall really awesome find.

Thanks to the recommendation in the Rick Steve’s travel guide book, we ended up here for lunch while our day at Bath. Note: they are located downstairs, look for the green awning; it is not the curry house on the street level The staff is very pleasant and patient with our questions. We got a great lunch deal that included 2 small appetizers, a curry entrée and ice cream or coffee. The food was okay compared to the Indian food I’ve had back at home. But it was a nice getaway from the touristy town center.

AVOIDATALLCOSTS. Seriously, I wish Unilocal had a zero-star review. This restaurant was the worst Indian food I’ve had in all of england, and that’s saying a lot sine I’ve had four other great indian meals since I’ve been in the country. The ambiance was alright, even though the restaurant was located about 2 stories underground and there was not a window in sight. At first impression, the staff seemed friendly. We were seated right away in a room with a bar, menus were delivered, and our drink orders were taken. We mulled over the menu for a bit, and decided to order Chicken Tikka Masala(a simple dish, and always a good one to test the quality of an indian restaurant) as well as two side dishes of Okra(Bhindi) and Eggplant(Baingan Bharta) — two of my all-time favorites. We also added rice, garlic naan, and raita to round out the meal. A few minutes later we were told our table was ready(this was a bit odd, since we had already been seated, and ordered at one table) but we moved to another table more suitable for dining. The new table was already outfitted with a dish containing hot sauce, mango chutney, a white cream sauce, and a bowl of lightly seasoned chopped onions. This was also strange since none of the dishes we ordered should have been accompanied by any of these items, but all was revealed when the waiter stopped by our tabe and asked if he could remove them(how long had they been sitting out?!) Our food arrived fairly quickly. The raita tasted as though someone had thrown onions and cucumber into a dish, added a spoonful of heavy yogurt, and hadn’t even bothered to stir it, and that set the tone for the rest of the meal. The tikka masala was uninspired. The garlic naan was mushy, as though it had been frozen and reheated. There The ocra dish was actually alright, but the eggplant was SOAWFUL it was actual INEDIBLE. I understand that Baingan Bharta is seasoned with raw garlic, but this chef(if you can call him that) had put so much garlic in the dish that I was unable to taste any of the rest of my meai. My Palette had been ruined. When a waiter came by to ask if everything was alright, I asked if the eggplant was supposed to taste so heavily of garlic, and he said yes. When another waiter came later to ask again how our dinenr was, I explained to him that the chef had certainly made a mistake — and the waiter seemed not to care at all. A 10% gratuity was added to the bill for us. Certainly not deserved. To top off the evening, we were served warm towels for our hands at the end of the evening, which left our hands SMELLINGDISTINCTLYOFMOLD.

Over rated restaurant. Booked a table for a Saturday night. Very unfriendly welcome, sat in bar to order. Had a drink, got the order wrong, made to feel that it was our guests mistake. Two of us vegetarians… Dishes very expensive, for the portions given. Certainly never go again, and would not recommend the place. So many better Indian restaurants in Bath.

I was wary of going after reading a couple of reviews here. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality & quantity of our meal. Starters were ok, but lacked much spice. Fortunately we chose mains that were marked on the menu as being spicy and they didn’t disappoint. Service was attentive without being pushy and the surroundings(a sub-basement) were appropriately decorated. Both the room & the food could have been warmer towards the end, but overall a pleasant dining experience.

This is our favorite Indian restaurant! We have been many times over the last 20 years. For first timers and tourists, going down the two flights of stairs is like going down Alice in Wonderland’s rabbit hole. At the bottom, you are warmly welcomed into the bar before being seated. The new décor is very nice and more open feeling. Well done Rajpoot! The food has always been the draw. There isn’t a dish we have dried that we have not enjoyed. Rajpoot has many awards to prove it! We like that we are not rushed, we enjoy our meal, wonderful service and a step back from our day to day rushing about.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Bath, for sure. The staff are super friendly and all want to shake your hand when you come in. I always go for a Cobra beer when eating Indian food, which is perfect for a light starter to your meal and also pretty good at knocking off the edge if you’ve accidentally ordered something a wee bit too spicy for the old palate. I particularly recommend the tikka dishes here, as they’ve never failed me so far, and I’ve been here a fair few times in the past. In short, just go, at least once in your life.

INNN-credible dinner at Rajpoot last night! Banner above the entrance claims they were ranked among the Top 10 Indian restaurants in Britain & I believe it (Be careful however, there is another Indian restaurant *right* beside here & their doors are side-by-side…don’t get mixed up! Rajpoot is the door on the left) We are started off w/sitting in their pleasant Bar area where we order drinkypoos(Cobra Indian Beer for me) & our meals After time to enjoy our refreshments, we are led into the restaurant area which has plush booths & tons of ambiance Hot plates on each table to keep each dish warm — we are immediately greeted w/our Papadom waiting for us Soon after we receive our Shingara which is just like the Samosas I’m used to — these were chocked full of veggies & super-crispy pastry shell… outstanding THEN the waitstaff asks us if we’re ready for dinner or if we’d like to take a break. How great is that?! No rush at all & we can eat in our own time! Main courses were among the best we’ve ever had: ** Lobra Korma for sis w/cauliflower, potatoes & other veggies in a light coconut sauce ** Navaratan Pulao for me w/its seasoned rice mixed in w/Veggies& dried fruits & smothered in a «Rajpoot Special» sauce & it was absolutely delightful Shared dessert of Havshi Helwa which had pistachios, almonds, curd milk & honey… we found it to be a cross between banana bread & pumpkin pie w/a fudgey consistency Super 5 Stars for Rajpoot! A Top Ten indeed!

I have nothing positive to say about last night’s dining expereince at the Rajpoot in Bath. From the bored doorman, to the ‘slops’ in my beer to the poor service and questionable food I and my party were totally underwhelmed. Chicken dhansak? — more like chicken with coconut and a dash of chilli oil; Tandoori Thali? — luke warm meat on a shared non-sizzling sizzler; pre-cooked naan bread and chapati still waxy with the cold! Graceless, argumentative management who were not interested in my feedback. never again thank you. I can cook better curry myself so perhaps I should enter this so-called curry contest for the best in the west! They are having a laugh but not at my expense again.

This is a bit more expensive that your average Indian meal but it is definitely worth it for that special occasion. The occasion begins when you are welcomed at the door by a chap in ceremonial dress, then you go down the stairs into the depths of old Bath. The atmosphere and décor is intimate and cosy. The food is great too, offering a selection of Tandoori, Mughlai and Bengali dishes. If you fancy you can even have a bottle of Indian ‘champagne’ to accompany your special meal(and it’s not bad too). The bit I love most though is that as well as the usual kulfi they serve Indian desserts, such as gulap jamun, laddu and halwa yummy!
