On a rainy saturday afternoon, I needed a quick, reasonably priced snack at a warm location. Waitrose café was in front of me, so I tell myself, why not. I waited in line 15 minutes to place an order. I ordered a leek and potato tart(approx. 8 pounds). Bland, unimaginative tart. Coleslaw drenched in mayonnaise. When the tart eventually arrived, I had to wait 5 more minutes to get a knife and a fork(they ran out of them… several customers were also waiting for their cutlery). By then the quiche was cold. I should have bought a sandwich instead.

What can I say. I was a tourist. All I can comment on is the elevator took me there from the parking garage underground and their LOO is outside near the street. Place was packed and seemed cramped inside. Bathroom was typical English. Nothing fancy, weird smelling and well, a relief after driving 4 hours without a stop. Centrally located in Bath around many shops. You must choose to spend an entire day in this area.

Despite being a student at the time, I often found myself coming here. I lived in the centre, so it was only a short walk to this place, although the majority of shoppers take the Range Rover and park in the underground Podium car park, of course, darling, dearest, sweetie. If you can put aside the fact that everyone here is pretentious, smug and loaded — ie, don’t expect any smiles or apologies if you’re bumped — there is actually a damn fine range of food, although you’ll certainly be paying for it. Then again, Waitrose does have the most ethical outlook of any supermarket out there, so maybe it’s worth paying a bit extra.

In a city like Bath(posh and a bit pretentious) you won’t be surprised to hear that Waitrose is the supermarket of choice. This branch can be found in The Podium shopping centre and is extremely popular, so be prepared to queue for your goods! Even though the store itself is relatively big, the isles are quite narrow and difficult to navigate, especially if you have a trolley. The varieties of foods they sell aren’t quite as extensive as other Waitrose shops which can be disappointing. But the staff are always polite and willing to help if you can’t find a particular item. For a similar price, I prefer to shop at Marks and Spencer’s on the high street where the queues are shorter and the food is more interesting.

Duck eggs, Craster kippers, Kalamata olives and more. In which other Bath supermarket can you get such good food? pricey but clean and friendly.

Waitrose is great on the work credit card. Fantastic for platters for last minute meetings or parties. The cost is a little higher than your average super market but then the quality is too. Good for healthier and tastier ready meals and the fruit is pretty much always lovely.

My corner shop! Fantastic variety of lovely food and drink; staff are always willing to help, special orders for large numbers of items(e.g. wine). Very good ready meals, often reduced at the end of the day. All own brand food and drink is lovely(they now guarantee this!). Avoid at weekends unless you like being stuck behind other people who are frustrated at not being able to shop quickly enough If you have the John Lewis partnership credit card you get double points for shopping at Waitrose.
