Build a Burger is a good wee spot on Botanic-fastfoodforstudents-Avenue, perfect for a quick burger for lunch. As the name suggests, you can make up your dream burger from scratch i.e. choosing your bun through to what meat you want and all the extra garnishes — there is a wide range of veggies, sauces etc. It was quite busy when I visited but service is pretty quick. Their chips is probably the best nearby. My only negative criticism would be that I was asked what I want on my chips only when I was at the checkout so could not quite have a look at the counter when making this life-changing decision(haha)

We called in here following seeing reviews online and thought we’d give it a go. Initially a bit put off as the place looked filthy, but we went ahead and ordered anyway… I had the chilli dog, chips and coleslaw, and my boyfriend had the kangaroo burger, chips, and coleslaw. Neither of us particularly enjoyed it, the sausage in my hotdog wasn’t nice at all and he said his kangaroo burger just tasted like a cheap beef patty. Maybe that’s what kangaroo is meant to taste like, who knows. The chips were fine but the coleslaw made the Tesco value coleslaw look like a luxury brand. The staff who served us were absolutely lovely, and for this reason I feel terrible giving a 2 star review, but in all honesty, neither of us would go back again, and there are much nicer places to eat in the area.

Have you ever wondered what Haribo Bears on a burger would taste like? Probably not. Would you ever try them if you were given the opportunity? Probably not. Build a Burger, alongside Boojum, is one of the more popular places to go for a quick bite to eat on Botanic. Offering a wide variety of different toppings, sauces and extras for your burger, it gets top marks for variety. There are specialty meats that seem to rotate fairly regularly(today when I went in, Springbok was on the menu) as well as a menu that has grown beyond the initial burgers, wings and chips that they started out with. Value for money is key here. There are some premium toppings(e.g. Bacon, fried egg) that can add up, but generally you’ll be able to get a huge burger and some chips for around £6 — 7. A recent introduction is a Doubles menu. 3 different burgers on offer(The Fiesta, The BBQ and The Aloha, you can probably guess what is on each of these) that also come with a side of chips and a drink. £5.50. It puts Burger King and McDonald’s to shame in terms of how much bang you get for your buck. The burgers themselves are big and pretty tasty. It’s difficult to review the food, since for the large part its up to you how nice/awful it is. You can be sensible and create a nice burger, or you can throw caution to the wind and create something that’ll make a mess in your hands, and later in the bathroom. The staff are always very welcoming and up for a bit of banter. They recognise the regulars, of which there are many, and always make a point of acknowledging you when you come in to order. Big fan, but unfortunately can’t get into the habit of attending this place regularly again. My waistline couldn’t handle it.

This is a strange concept, like others have mentioned. A Subway type burger restaurant had me scratching my head a bit, but this place is pretty wicked. The choice is phenomenal. 4 different types of onions outside fried onions, a list of different burgers that would put most places to shame. Being able to choose your own roll from a selection of 4 was pretty good. I opted for a venison burger, with chips and onions rings, it was delicious. Only one prob here. The portion sizes were insane! If I knew how much food I was going to end up with, I’d have dropped the idea of the chips. The venison burger was huge, I felt like I was holding a frisbee :) it was cooked nicely and full of mouthwatering flavour, onion rings were really very nice. This place also sells Irn Bru, which is just excellent in itself. This is a great place, but you really need to be starving hungry to attempt one of the burgers. Top marks though!

What can I say. Build a burger is what it says it is. You go in and choose from their fairly extensive menu of burgers and hot dogs etc and then it enters a production where u can choose what you want on it. There is a huge number of ingredients so its great for most food persuasions and there are even a few veggie options. I like the place, I’ve been back a few times. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not the best burger in the whole world but it is tasty and very reasonably priced. Service is usually quite quick and it always appears clean. I’ve seen a few reviews here that mention cleanliness etc but personally I’ve never had a bad experience here. If your looking for a tasty mass of awesomeness I’d recommend the chilli dog and the cheese and bacon chips! Cheap cheerful and tasty!

The one and only time I visited this establishment I was sitting enjoying my food because the food was good but then I saw someone come from the counter and proceed dig through the bin with one of the trays that they put the food on needless to say I will not be returning to eat here ever again

I initially reviewed Build-A-Burger giving them a 4 but feel I have to up this to a 5 star rating as their food’s just so delicious. They have the best vegetarian and vegan burger options in Belfast and their chips are amazing. I love the fact they have a couple of veggie burger options — a micro protein burger or a spicy bean burger — no other chip shop I know offers such good veggie burger options. Plus the burgers are super massive and tasty and you can choose your own breads and fillings from a huge range of options. The fillings on offer cover everything from the usual burger accompaniments to options such as olives, sundried tomatoes, rocket leaves and a huge range of sauces and dressings. So you can have a standard, gourmet or any weird and wonderful burger you can think up. Truly yummy grub.

Build a Burger is great as you get to choose your bread, meat and fillings, so you can opt for whatever you like best rather than pick something from a menu that looks the best. There are a wide range of fillings, even gummy bears(which I didn’t fancy!). The fries are lovely too and I leave feeling satisfied after a Build a Burger meal.

Good concept poorly executed. Build a burger is, like a previous review said, something close to Subway for burgers. Go in pick your bread, pick your meat then pick your toppings. There are plenty of options and I like how everyone can get something to suit. However the key to a good burger is good meat and a good bun. Here you get neither. The meat tastes processed and synthetic and the bun is just a big lump of bread that doesn’t suit. I wanted to like this place because Belfast is lacking in good burgers. However I just could not recommend Build a Burger

Belfast has a lot of options for food, but Build a Burger definitely sits at the top of my list for places to go. The method there is simple: choose your burger(chicken, venison, beef, or veggie), choose your bread, and then choose your toppings(so many toppings… even gummie bears or peanut butter!). The staff is super friendly, and the space has a great upstairs for larger groups. Definitely worth stopping into if you are in Belfast and looking for a cheap eat. It was 5 pounds including a burger, chips, and a drink… can’t beat it!
