Just been in to get a sandwich after being told they were good B&W by a colleague. Well maybe if you get something really basic they are but it only saved me 5p on a similar sandwich round the corner in Conway Mill. The bread wasn’t up to much, the filling was a bit bland and the service was, well it was basically throwing it together like they were in a missive rush despite there only being 2 of us in the queue. The girl on the till wasn’t exactly a model of customer care or basic human warmth either. The choice was VERY limited. Chicken, ham, chicken&ham or chicken tikka. That was it really. Plus they don’t do coffee or anything to take out with it. All in all in future I’ll spend the extra 5p around the corner and get a much better experience all round.

Lena’s is a wee newsagents just off the Fall’s Road in Belfast, it’s not exactly local to me, but I was introduced to it one lunchtime by a friend who lives in the area and thought I’d give it a go. There is plenty of parking outside and it is easily accessible, and on first glance, it is just like any other newsagent you would go into, good selection of magazines and newspapers, soft drinks and juices, confectionery, crisps, tobacco — you know the drill! What makes Lena’s different though, is their little sandwich bar at the back, where you can have any sandwich you want made up using the freshest ingredients and bread. My favourite is the large round muffin cut in half with chicken and egg salad and cheese… I’ve got all the ingredients myself and tried to re-create it at home, but it just never tastes as amazing as the ones in Lena’s!
