Rockies Bar is the perfect place for a pre or post event pint. Ideally located just inside the Odyssey Arena this place can get pretty jam packed, especially when big bands come to town. There’s not much choice in terms of Bars in the Odyssey arena so Rockies is your best bet for a pint. It is set up like an American Sports Bar with Ice Hockey Jerseys hanging from the ceiling. There’s always a good atmosphere in Rockies and it has a reputation of being good craic after the Belfast Giant play. Away Fans head here for a bit of banter with the locals. Make sure you bring your wallet is you’re going to Rockies, it’s not cheap at around £4.50 per pint but I suppose this is to be expected as it holds the drinks monopoly at the Odyssey. Don’t let expensive drinks put you off. If you like Canadian/North American sports bars you’ll love Rockies.

Best sports bar this side of the pond. As an ice hockey fan I traveled to Belfast to see my team(Nottingham Panthers) play the Belfast Giants in a double header, arriving at Rockies, former Panther and owner of the bar Greaves welcomed us in. The bar itself is a feast for the eyes. 1000s of items of Ice hockey memorabilia, photos, letters, sticks and 100s of jerseys from across the world. After the match we returned to the bar, this time it was understandingly busy yet we were served relatively quick, and at £3 a pint of Guinness we stayed until close. A great place to visit for any sport fan. Also offering large screen T. Vs offering sky sports. Can’t wait to go back.

Rockies sports bar now occupies what once was the Basin in the Odyssey. I’m no sure how great an idea it was to open up a sports bar in what was a busy, trendy little bar that suited everyone, especially since it calls itself ‘Northern Ireland’s Canadian Sports Bar’ I wasn’t aware that Canadian sports were particularly popular here. Saying that, they draw in a decent enough crowd, do a good range of drinks for reasonable prices, have HUGETV screens, and even better, pool tables! They also have lots of memorabilia to look at, from all sorts of sports teams all over the world. While on paper, it doesn’t seem that great, in practice it works, and it has a great atmosphere, perfect for a few drinks before watching the match or going to the cinema!

Rockies is something of a rare beast in Belfast in that in décor and orientation it is a totally sports orientated bar! The walls are covered with signed shirts from big football, hockey, rugby and other sports star’s shirts, and provide something nice to look at when you are in here for a drink. The bar shows all the biggest sporting events throughout the week which is very useful if you do not have access to watching it at home! The bar is never overly packed despite its prime location so you are never waiting to get served for long, but when there is a very big sporting event on be warned that it will be a lot more intimate! There is ample seating all around so you should always be able to sit and get yourself comfortable in here! Everything is priced reasonably enough, despite no real special offers, but I suppose they have to pay for all that memorabilia somehow!

I’ve been to two sports bars in my life. The first was in Glasgow and I was lucky to leave with a full set of teeth and rohypnol free. The second, was Rockies. I won’t be going back to either bar. Rockies is full of the pre Box crowd at a time when you’ve not had enough to drink to ignore this. It was pretty male dominated(in a sports bar?!) but it’s my experience of females in this bar that stands out. In the toilets, that great meeting place for gals, I had one of my first encounters with rude ladies in Belfast, as I had just recently came over from my native Glasgow. They spent their time slagging off some of the other random girls who walked in and were pretty much the definition of chavs. Unlucky, but there are friendlier, more welcoming places in Belfast to watch sport and have a drink. Go to one of them instead. Maybe it’s a different experience for groups of guys, such as the above reviewer, and probably quite good fun. But in my experience, like a Yorkie, it’s not for girls.

Rockies is a sports bar located in the Odyssey, directly opposite the Box nightclub, and is always busy during sports events. We have been in it twice, one was when we were escorted out of the Box for having a smidgen too much to drink. And the second time we couldn’t get into the place because Ireland were playing Wales in the rugby and we were going to watch Snow Patrol at the same time. It is a great little bar, even though there doesn’t happen to be any significant offers on. It is not a particularly large place but it has a «sports» atmosphere, complete with signed ice hockey shirts and various sports pictures and memorabilia all over the walls. It is owned by a Canadian man and as we all know, Canadians are mental about their ice hockey and celine dion, but thankfully there is just ice hockey in here. There is also a pool table for extra fun. It is a great place to go if you find yourself at a Belfast Giants game and fancy a pint or two. Well worth a visit
