I can’t really tell you about their courses in any great detail but i can tell you about the organisation, what they have to offer and how they celebrate the talent they nurture. I only really discovered Access 2 Music a few years ago through a project I was working on to signpost young people to creative and cultural stuff going on in the city.
As a national organisation they employ talented musicians to help you hone your craft and interest in music as well as provide you with a wealth of contacts and networks. You aren’t working in isolation to make music, instead you will find yourself with a wealth of opportunities to collaborate and learn about the music industry.
They even have an awesome awards ceremony, and the one I attended had the lovely and humble Edith Bowman presenting. It felt like a serious awards ceremony that celebrated the talent and work of those on the courses.

Keep your Rock School jokes to yourself. You won’t get any Jack Black buffoonery here. Access To Music is run by musicians who are or who have been involved and successful in the music industry. The teaching here is highly vocational, and highly relevant. As well as a steady core of teachers, they have visiting lecturers in the form of musicians, promoters and record label owners. In addition there is an apprentice scheme where the students work with specialists in their field to be given first-​hand insight into how that section of the industry works. THese are better tools that I was provided with in my days of music GCSE, when Mr Powers would simply dictate Mozart’s life to us while we hurriedly sketched it down, or pushed us to play ‘Peace Pudding Hot’ of the recorder.
Courses in Music Performance, Music Technology, Music Composition and Music Business mean ATM have all your musical education needs covered.

Who’s not heard of Access To Music College? They were originally located towards Jewellery Quarter but have now moved into their own fully purpose built space on Heath Mill Lane in Digbeth; just behind the Custard Factory. So, the easiest way to get to the college is via the number 97 bus from town, as it drops you off right outside the college.
If you want to get into the music industry and want to gain a qualification, plus also build up your contacts and network with industry professionals– this place is where you need to enrol yourself into.
It’s one of the best UK Music colleges; the students who attend are highly talented individuals who are really trying to pursue a career in music.
I first visited Access to Music College earlier on this year for a little mini concert they held but have since visited the college for meetings. In regards to the building, it’s like an industrial space which has been converted into an incubator for budding musicians. There are two levels; the top level being where all the staff offices are located, the ground floor offers the students luxury music booths– there’s about 8 to 10 booths (if I remember rightly). Each booth has sound proofing, a range of different equipment which the students can utilise. The rooms are also for different purposes, some booths are strictly for rehearsing in while others are more for recording and carrying out the production part of the music making.
The whole building has been kitted out with the latest equipment. The best feature in my opinion is their huge hall space which they use for concerts, conferences and practising.
