Lovely drivers, clean cars, reliable & very tolerant of giggly old girl banter after a few beers! …and none of this ‘What are you normally charged?’

It was a Tuesday evening at the end of November and a group of friends had decided to have an early festive evening at a posh brasserie in the city centre. Table was booked for 7:30 and, because there were to be cocktails involved, a taxi was booked for 7pm — giving plenty of time to get from Kings Norton to the city centre with a stop off for cash and a friend on the way.
7pm came and went. A call was made to the taxi firm at 7:10 «he’s stuck in Maypole in traffic — he will be 5 minutes». At 7:17 the taxi driver rang «i will be 5 minutes». At 7:25 still no taxi so we rang the company again «he will be two minutes». My protest about bad customer service fell on deaf ears and i was waved off with a meek «sorry».
When the taxi driver finally turned up at 7:35 he said that he had been stuck on the pershore Road in traffic. Firstly, this is somewhat different to what i was told by the taxi firm. Secondly, i drive down the Pershore Road ALL THE TIME (and we drove down it after he picked us up), the likelihood of traffic at 7pm is almost negligible (at least to the point of being 35 minutes late for a job!!). There was very little apology and we were stunned when he charged us £12! £12 when he didnt even turn up until after the time our table was booked for!
I will NEVER use this firm again. Poor customer service and didnt give a toss that they were late and dampened our evening (we were somewhat stressed by the time we arrived).
Looking at previous reviews on here i can see that they got good reviews a couple of years ago but seem to have deteriorated somewhat of late.

Ambassador send taxis in a reasonable time however some of there taxi drivers are not very friendly or helpful.
I have also found that ambassador are dear than other company’s within the local area they also have a high tech computer system which remembers who you are so the call centre and taxi drivers know exactly who you are.
I personally would not recommend people to use ambassador but you may get a different experience to what I had because the staff tend to change a lot and call centre have been rather abrupt with me in the past.
However I will never use them again as I am out of there catchment area and I use falcon and elite now.
I hope this review has helped you and that if you use ambassador you get a better experience then I did. The taxi company also has a call and text system where they call or text you when your taxi is outside/​on its way to you the offices computers also know your most visited place.

This taxi rank is one of the best to go to after a hard night out in Kings Heath. I hate being in that situation where I am too tired to walk home and I end up wondering the unfriendly night streets.
I’ve been lost before and it isn’t a lot of fun, but with this rank I know I can get anywhere I want by just coming here. It saves making a phone call to an already busy taxi company or desperately trying to flag down a speeding black cab in the street.
The rank and headquarters of the Kings Heath branch is about a two minute walk from the Hare & Hounds, and The Station is equidistant in reach.
The staff are always helpful and I am never made to wait more than five minutes at most for a taxi. I usually get one straight away.

They’re the taxi company I always go for. Even in states of high inebriation I will always remember the number ‘all the fours and all the ones’. They’re all really friendly and most of them are quite chatty but also don’t impose themselves if you are hungover/​tired/​not in the mood for small talk. At the end of the phone call I sometimes get a ‘OK, bye Selma’ which is funny if anything when speaking to someone completely anonymous to you.
Upon arriving at my destination the issue of pricing usually goes something like this:
‘How much is that?
Well you do it more than I do so you tell me’
Then some deal-​making ensues where I generally walk away feeling like maybe I could be big in the business world. Thank god they took me off their blocked list after a friend of mine rang them from my phone and never had the intention to pay. Tut. I’m back in the good books and they’re firmly in mine.

Ambassador provide a reliable, efficient and personable service — part of the reason why I choose to give them them the business of shuttling me around at rather uncivilized hours.
When I call they address me as ‘Mr. Harrison’ every time, which makes me feel as though I am some high-​calibre CEO, when the stark reality is I am (normally) a drunk, young man who needs a lift home — or a fairly sober, young man who needs to accompany his drunk friends home.
Most of the drivers come prepared with a good sense of humour in expectation of incoherent drunk-​talk about money, societal taboos or the meaning and absurdity of life.
When you arrive at your destination and it comes to the practical things of life — money — they have a very fair method of opening a haggle with you, where you both come to a point of satisfaction with the sum changing hands.
The taxi ride is an interesting phenomenon and Ambassador’s are regularly and by far the most interesting I’ve had.

‘Hello, Ambassador!’ It’s a rushed and efficient greeting when you call this company, which hints at what the service will be like. They are very accurate about when the car will be with you and its usually there within 5 minutes, if you call from Kings Heath. Then they will call the phone that you ordered the cab from when they are outside or near your pick up point. They’ll call you by name too, as they have a nifty computer system that remembers you.
These are friendly guys, too. I’ve had some in-​depth conversations with drivers of Ambassador Cars that rival those with good friends in the early hours of the morning when the senses are heightened and your guard is down, and you talk on a deep personal level. I’m not kidding.
There was a time when I’d go along the line of taxis queuing up outside places like The Victoria or The Actress and Bishop, until one of the drivers gave a quote for getting me home that was some where near reasonable. Now I just call Ambassador every time, for a speedy, efficient and value for money service.
Top Tip-​When they say ‘How much do you usually pay?’, (and they will) reply with the words ‘A pound’, whatever the distance you have traveled. It breaks the ice and sets the fee up for being less that it might’ve been.
