Antiques and Curios Creations

I’ve always loved antique, second hand shops and charity shops. I like to have a good old mooch around and see what brings in a blast from the past. I stumbled upon this shop as I was walking around King’s Heath and what greeted me was a cornucopia of great finds! This shop was like stepping back in time and offered up memories and yearnings to buy, buy, buy! The old bureaus, the ornate sideboards, the gilt framed mirrors, the old leather beaten trunks and aluminium chests, the many picture frames at the back of the store… If I could, I would’ve bought them all! I had my eye on an old piano complete with it’s original receipt but sadly it had sold :-(and a stainless steel soldiers mask/​helmet. The chap in the store was kind enough to allow me to take a few photographs. I was so happy to be in there, I could’ve spent all day taking photos… The spools of old cotton, the mannequins and even the collection of old cigarette packs caught my eye, so I snapped away… What a great shop! I can’t wait to return and see how this business venture captures the minds of customers who are keen on interior design, design, vintage/​retro or just the general customers who want a good browse or trip down Memory Lane.

I love having a good old root around in this bazaar. I have never committed to buy anything because I’m not always sure of the usefulness of the things I pick up. They have all sorts of weird and wonderful things in there and what’s great is that every time you go in there the selection has slightly changed.
They have a collection of tins and trinket boxes which always catch my eye. I’m a sucker for bags and they have a whole section of vintage leather suitcases and bags. I once saw a perfume bottle which looked like something dug up from the sea bed of the Titanic wreck. Another eye-​catching item I wish I could afford is the big brass-​finished globe; it’s pretty special.

What can I say, this is a very interesting place and does indeed have some ‘curious creations’. I popped in here for a browse to see if I could find something unusual as a birthday gift. The shop assistant was very quiet and it was quite dark inside, but it is indeed an intriguing place. Inside I was surprised to find an array of things, from vintage suitcases and photo frames, to wicker chairs and garden statues. I am no antique expert, but some of the stuff inside seemed quite precious and valuable, even the odd Elvis dolls I came across. I settled on purchasing some pretty old tins that could be used to store jewellery, they had lovely vintage pictures on the front. I think this store is worth a visit because it has so many bizarre and interesting things in. I liked the fact I was not pressured to buy anything and that the shop assistant just let us browse around the store for a while. Overall, a unique place!

Antiques and Curios Creations is an eccentric, wild and downright charming little shop. Which is a reflection of a really nice owner.
I can’t summarise the antique, aged and authentic goods that they have in store other than under the phrase weird and wonderful — which really doesn’t do it justice.
I bought a Matisse print from there framed for £15, which is ludicrously cheap in comparison to most places that would charge you triple that (if not more) just for the print.
It is full of quaint jars, mirrors, candle holders, chests, tin helmets, lanterns, snow shoes etc. all of which give this shop a historic quality. I feel as though I could be in 1920s Paris when I’m in there.
It’s really worth visiting, even if its just to mooch around and see an assortment of items and ponder how so many strange and delightful things converged on a little shop in Birmingham. You never know, you might just be as pleasantly surprised as I was.
