What a nice chippy. No frills but it’s clean and tidy and you get the impression that they take a bit more care with their food. The chips are always fresh and not too greasy, large portions too. I like to have a salad in a pitta and chips with their tasty chinese curry sauce. The couple who work in there are always really friendly and even when it’s busy the service is quick. It’s on the corner of St Marys Row and right next to The Bulls Head and loads of other pubs so it can get a bit manic in there at the weekend, especially as it’s quite small, but don’t let that put you off. It’s worth hanging around for an extra 5 minutes and getting to stuff your face with some tasty grub on the walk home.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Atlantis is the finger-licking-good scallop burger… yes you read correctly, a scallop in a burger. I’ve never seen it on any other menu but these guys have introduced me to a delicious alternative to the chip butty! They also have a great range of sauces and burger fillers so you can pile on all the extras for a hearty meal! I’m very fussy when it comes to chips. They have to be chunky, and sadly more and more chip shops are offering fries rather than traditional chips. Atlantis is bucking the trend and offer tasty, succulent chips. It’s a shame there isn’t much parking nearby because the chippy is located in the heart of Moseley Village. It can also get quite busy on weekend evenings after punters from nearby bars and pubs retire for a late night snack.

From it’s white and neon free exterior onwards, you can tell there’s something that sets Atlantis Fish Bar apart from most other takeaways. That something else is to do with a higher standard of cleanliness, an attention to detail and a much lower level of grease in their food. The owner’s Greek heritage means that alongside the usual fish and chips, you get products like houmous on offer — in fact, when I was in there once, my friend suprised me by ordering a feta cheese salad, and jolly nice it was too. Prices are a little bit higher than you would normally expect which seems reasonable because the standards are higher than you would normally expect. Generally, it doesn’t take too long to get served but if you’re going in there at pub chucking out time be prepared to wait longer than usual due to how popular the Atlantis is. At least there’s some nice benches in the square outside on which to eat your food.
