This is a small family run café with a wide choice of foods. Known especially for its fry-ups and Mediterranean kebab. Not many café’s do fresh bacon and sausage frying in the Jewellery Quarter! The staff are always busy as its popular at the usual breakfast and lunch times with take-outs. Has a nice little garden for use in the summer. Prices are much cheaper than the larger café’s.

This café may look small from the outside, but don’t worry as it certainly makes up for it by offering a big choice! I tend to go here for their jacket potatos as they are always large and cooked to perfection(crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle!). I like the chicken tikka with cheese but they offer everything from tuna to chilli so you’ll definitely be able to find something tasty, If you don’t have to rush back to the office, you should take 30 minutes to relax and go outside to sit in their garden, perfect on a sunny afternoon!

Café Neo is a great little sandwich shop just next door to the Jeweller’s Arms. Whilst they offer breakfast type items Café Neo is a better option for sandwiches and jacket spuds really, and you get your breakfast from Hylton’s Café just up the road. As a family run business they are always really friendly but often rushed off their feet with telephone orders galore. The menu can be a bit intimidating as there is lots to choose from for your sandwich fillings, from halloumi to marinated chicken. They have a hot special every day that can be anything from chilli, Mediterranean chicken with rice to baguette pizzas. Even though it’s a busy small café if you choose to sit in to eat doesn’t feel too crammed, and they also have an outdoor garden, but I’ve never ventured out back before so I can’t tell you what that’s like. Very reasonably priced and the ingredients are always super fresh.

Café Neo is a handy little sandwich shop only 5 minutes from my office. The staff are friendly, albeit ALWAYS rushed off their feet by phone orders and customers in the shop. Inside they have a few chairs and tables, though space is at a premium.(Rumour has it they have their own beer garden(minus beer!) but I’ve never yet ventured out back) Food on offer includes all the usual sandwiches, baguettes and salad boxes(all made to order) and they also do a pretty good jacket potato, and have fresh hot food available most days which is usually some kind of spiced meat, rice, chili and piza baguettes. Cheap, cheerful, and totally reliable.

While in search of somewhere new in Hockley to have lunch that isn’t a Subway, Tesco or other franchise shop, I eventually happened upon Café Neo. Located down one of the many side roads which spread, web-like from the centre of the Jewellery Quarter, Café Neo is a modest eatery that stocks a considerable variety of hot and cold sandwiches, jacket potatoes, and hot cooked meals. Despite its out of the way location, Café Neo was bustling with customers when I visited. I opted for the grilled halloumi baguette, as it’s not something you often see on sandwich shop menus. The baguette wasn’t bad, especially for the price. The bread tasted fresh and the cheese was well cooked. I also had a vegetable soup, which was pretty standard fare but again, very reasonably priced. With the sheer choice on offer, coupled with the good value, I would definitely go here again and recommend it to anyone who was in the area. My only gripe was that it was very lively inside, and hence not somewhere you’d go for a quiet lunch and read of the paper.
