Food City

A good fruit and veg shop on Soho Road.
What I like about shopping here is that they have a lot of choice, and it’s a typical shopping experience where you find you buy a lot more than what you had anticipated, or actually need.
They have a very good selection of all kind of fruits, reasonably priced, rices, lentils, flour, sauces, ingredients and spices. You can literally pretty much stock up your whole fridge and cupboards with what you can purchase in this mini store.
On the weekends it can be difficult trying to get parking nearby, so if your not able to walk it to here, then the public transport and local bus services are ideal. Overall not a bad handy shop, which sells all things cooking related.

The Soho Road has umpteen fruit and veg stalls shops but depending on which end of this long road you find yourself then there will always be some better than others.
As it’s near the über cheap Waverhill car park, which is the only place to park on the Soho Road that doesn’t require the luck of someone pulling out of a space on the road itself.
For unusual fruit and veg and good quality, cheap fruit and veg and spices to boot then head on into here. It’s a great place to not only buy good produce but to people watch at the same time.
I always end up with achy arms as I start grabbing my wares before i get near the baskets. I am often seen struggling to keep hold of everything before finally getting one.
Some of the fruit and veg shops are much the same but this is one of the good ones.

Food City is just round the corner from the (very cheap!) pay and display carpark just off the Soho Road on Waverhill Rd. That means that whenever I’m visiting Soho Rd to grab some awesome fruit and veg, or more speciality food items, it’s the first place I stop. And I’m glad this is the first place I stop — they always have a MASSIVE selection of delicious fruit and veg (some of which, I’m embarrassed to admit, I don’t recognise!) — my favourite being the giant pomelos they stock in season, and the juicy mangoes they have all year round.
Deeper inside the store, they stock a wider range of good including some fresh food items but also lots of spices, dried food, pulses and legumes, and strange potions and lotions for specialty hair and skin regimes. I never seem to purchase any of these, but coo over the intricate and detailed illustrated packaging.
Staff are friendly, and if you need something you can’t find they will bustle about to find what it is you need!
