I’m surprised I haven’t reviewed Karlus before and myself and the Other half have been using his services for a good year! He s recently moved to a swanky new studio on Vyse st above a jewellery shop. I usually make a trip with some random vintage dress I’ve bought that doesn’t fit or occasionally with my favourite pieces that are now too big for me(I’ve been shrinking a bit recently). Karlus listens intently to what I need and always delivers the dress improvements to deadline, sometimes staying late so I can pop in on my way home from work. He tailored a beautiful vintage suit that my other half found in a vintage barn and it now fits him perfectly… not bad for £30 charge. I couldn’t recommend him enough and he ll be tailoring the other halves wedding suit and my mum s dress for our summer wedding!

My mum was asked to be Godmother for a friends daughter and the christening was arranged shortly afterwards which didn’t leave much time to find a suitable outfit. After trailing around the shops in Birmingham, it became apparent that shopping for a suitable yet stylish outfit for a Godmother to be was not going to be an easy task with such short notice. Too small, too big, not smart enough, the list goes on! It was coming to the end of the day and we needed to buy an outfit. We opted for a skirt suit, the skirt fitted perfectly but the jacket didn’t look as fitted as it could. We found Karlus’ website online and made an appointment. He was really helpful and made my mum feel at ease. His attention to detail was perfect and my mum looked great on the photos. We have a wedding coming up and will definitely be using him again in the future.

Karlus G is one talented man, along with his sister Hillary who works alongside him. I’ve seen the fruits of their labour in custom items they’ve made for others, anything from dress, suits, shirts and sofa covers. For his sins my other half does WW2US re-enactment owning a lot of original clothes from the 40’s, often moth holed, bullet ridden or in need of a bit of TLC. Entrusting such old items to someone to do a good job could have been risky but I knew the standard of the work and that they would do a brilliant job for a great price. My other half couldn’t be happier with their colour matching of thread and nifty work that blends in seamlessly. They will take on any job big or small, really they will. Now I’m often having to take in items from his re-enacting buddies down south as they’ve seen the great job they’ve done.

Karlos’ studio is tucked away in the heart of the Jewellery Quarter. super easy to get to, just steps away from the JQ tram stop. I’ve had a couple of things made by Karlos — he’s friendly and listens attentively to whatever strange flights of fancy I come up with(and there are many!) and lets me know what’s possible for my budget, and what will work for my size and shape — including skinny jeans, a crazy wool hooded dress, and a rockabilly gingham halterneck dress for a swanky soirée. By far the best example of how amazing he is was when I was asked to be one of 4 bridesmaids — except the dress had sold out in my size! He worked with the existing dresses to make something that matched EXACTLY, but was totally tailored to fit me, AND came in budget! .I secretly think my dress was the best on the day as a result(obviously, not compared to the bride’s dress… :) I’ve since recommended him to EVERYONE I meet as his work is stunning, and he’s an awesome guy!
