Before beginning this review is based off an miniature bucket of home cooked chips and half a burger — and also beer. So this was part of the ‘Who’s got Beef’ Unilocal event for Feb 2016. We were set to try 3 different burgers from 3 different places around Birmingham and declare who had the ultimate burger. We were presented with 3 burger halves. We were told whose was who and I think I would of preferred a blind tasting but in the end it didn’t matter. I found it a close second between Meating’s entry and the Lord Clifden but ultimately this place won out. It wasn’t dry, full of flavour and it’s actually what I’d consider a memorable burger. You will pay for this by the way, drinks are exceeding £4.50 a pint — this is not some super craft beer from someone’s shed this is something that you can get in wetherspoons. The burgers are going on the menu for £10-£14 each, you do get extras(not like handmade burger co. Here’s your burger and everything else is extra) This is not a place you go to after getting a bit drunk and you want burgers. This is verging on a special meal, which on Monday is apparently 2 for £16 — at £8 a meal that seems very reasonable for what your getting.

Meating — the clue is in the name. If, like me, you’re a fan of all things meaty, then this place is well worth your time(and you may need some time). First, a note about the service… It is a little bit erratic. I went recently as part of a group of 8 or so people and we did have to catch staff as they went past a few times and had quite a long wait for food. Now on to the good bit, the food. The menu features a number of meaty treats, from relatively light kebabs on skewers, through to beastly burgers and ribs. A few of my friends opted for kebabs and all said that they were really tasty and succulent. After a bigger feed, I went for a lazy cow burger. I’ve put away a few burgers in my time but I think this one wins for me. The burger itself was really juicy, topped with shredded beef and caramelised onions. It even came with a pot of beef juices for dripping, and extra little indulgence that just added to the great flavour. I also went for a side of fries with fried egg and crispy bacon. Yum. To sum up, I’ll definitely be going. I’m sure service hiccups will be ironed out and the food was worth the wait.
