Oak Tree Sandwich Bar

There’s no prizes (sorry!) for guessing what it is that the Oak Tree Sandwich Bar specialise in. As the name suggests, sandwiches are the main event here, and ‘here’ is a pleasant little local café, a significant step up from a greasy spoon type establishment, thanks to the warm, inviting atmosphere, particularly on a rainy day. There’s a small amount of seating outside, with considerably more indoors, so I’ve never had a problem getting a seat. The prices are extremely good — as a barometer of comparison, they still do bottles of fizzy drinks like Coca Cola for £1 — a price that you’d be hard pressed to find even in the massive Sainsburys superstore across the Bristol Road. The range of sandwiches is fantastic, from the common such as egg and mayonnaise to the more exotic, such as smoked ham and brie, a continental twist on the old favourite ham and cheese. My personal choices are the various permutations of breakfast sandwiches. A sausage sandwich will set you back all of £2, and you can have almost any item from a full English included for a bit extra. Highly recommended.
