Pepper Chef

Christmas and Chinese food go well together… right? Well I decided for some reason this year they did and took a trip to Pepper Chef on the border of Birmingham’s Arcadian and gay village.
All the food I have had here is always pretty spot on. On this festive visit we decided to share a few dishes ordering the pork ramen, chilli chicken, yeung chow fried rice and the chicken wings… a bit of an over eat but it is the time of the year for it. Everything was cooked to perfection but the real star of the show was the yeung chow rice. At some places I have ordered this dish they have made the meat the main element of it with a few lonely grains of rice around the plate, but this was a beautifully cooked plate of rice with plenty of egg and a selection of meat and fish running through it, it was really something. especially with lashings of soy sauce.
The staff here are really accommodating asking where you would like to sit and also if you would like your food as it is ready or all together, they are also more than happy to explain the extensive menu if you ask about any of the dishes or want them to make recommendations.
There are a lot of places to choose from in this area but I think Pepper Chef is a solid choice if you are looking for a decent Chinese. I’ll be back.

Quite possibly the worst food in the whole of China town. The dishes is dry and tasteless, especially pork. The dishes and drinks are expensive.
There are lot better options nearby. Only go if none of these other options are available too you.
The service is ok.

Well first time trying this place. The food quality is amazing.
The layout of the place feels a lot like eating at Yoshinoya (delicious chain which we don’t have in the Uk) or something similar.
The mango yoghurt ice drink was delicious, it had mango pulp at the bottom. Really fresh!
We ordered beef skewers, squid tentacles, roasted garlic skewer, pork burger, and Japanese BBQ rice dish.
It was all great, the tentacles are a little on the spicy side but tasted good. The meat was really tender, and the BBQ sauce was amazing. The pork burger was delicious too.
I’d mark them full marks but we later found out they’d given us the wrong bill which has cost us more. Going in tomorrow to sort that out though; so will update any review from there!
Editing review!!! Just to say got back from the restaurant and the manager was absolutely lovely and apologised! Gave us the difference back in cash so five stars easily!
