I have been in here a few times when I have been in Kings Heath shopping. It is quite small and dark inside, but then again I think that a lot of independent jewellers are. It is packed full of jewellery and so I often like to have a look around to see if anything takes my fancy. The guy who works in there is really friendly and has always asked me if I would like some help. Sometimes I have asked him to show me things and he has always been very polite and also recommended things to me. The prices are fairly moderate, but it really depends on what you are buying. I would recommend having a look in here if you are looking for some jewellery and you are in the area.

A nice independent jewelers based in the heart of the urban bustling streets of Kings Heath. The store is small; it stands in a building that looks like it has seen a lot of time pass by. The atmosphere inside the store is stifling and claustrophobic; dust settles some items that have not been touched in years. I came here to get a battery put in to my girlfriend’s watch. The watch she uses is really small and dainty and it takes the smallest watch battery you can buy. The friendly shop assistant dutifully put the battery into the watch with pain staking accuracy. He had to use tweezers to make sure he could hold a firm grip on the sides of the battery. The replacement cost me five pounds, my girlfriend usually pays eight so I got a three pound saving. I was very pleased about this and will definitely be coming back here again.

Poplar Gifts, located just off the High Street in Kings Heath, is actually more of a jewellery shop than an all purpose gift store. It’s a charming local store, very small(almost like one of the crooked buildings you’d expect to in a Harry Potter film) but crammed full of things to make for an excellent selection. On every occasion that I’ve been in, I’ve always been served by the same friendly man who I assume is the owner, and he always gives me helpful(and honest) advice on what I’d be best buying after I give him so vague list of criteria that I’m looking to fulfil. I never mention the fact that I’m on a budget, but he always seems to infer that I’m a student, and guides me towards the lower end products, price-wise, which is always reassuring. Speaking of prices, Poplar Gift’s are extremely reasonable, with my most recent purchase, a pair of 9ct gold earrings setting me back just £17. Highly recommended.
