We stayed for one night this past weekend as part of our anniversary celebrations. We got a standard double room and were put on the 11th floor with views out over the city. The welcome was quick and friendly and the room was as comfortable as you would expect. The room was a good size for the two of us and very clean. My only niggle was that the bed was a little of the soft side but that’s just my taste. We had breakfast in the morning which was lovely. A full hot and cold food selection with table served drinks. It was exactly what you would expect from a hotel priced in this range. We would probably stay here again if we could get a similar deal.

Loved this hotel! Perhaps its not in the most attractive part of town, but the neighbourhood(chinatown/historic quarter) has oodles of character and loads of decent bars and eateries. Around the corner is the Back to Backs National Trust Property, highly recommended, plus the Arcadian Centre with its Glee Club(comedy), cocktail bars and some restaurants that are perfect for a crowd. The main city centre attractions are all easily walkable. We got an amazing rate here, and as we were arriving by train, it couldn’t have been more convenient, being just around the corner from New Street Station. The hotel itself is pretty high-rise and our room had floor to ceiling windows. It made for an interesting moment when one of our group confessed a dislike of heights. The sheer curtains were quickly pulled, but she got used to those big views eventually. The room was a decent size and well furnished. In addition to tea and coffee making facilities we had an ice box, wine glasses and the all important means to perfectly chill our wine and water. I would like to have seen a protector cover on the pillow, but the bed was supremely comfortable and the bedding of good quality. We didn’t eat breakfast at the hotel, but were happy with pretty much every other aspect of it. The staff were chatty and helpful and always ready with good advice when it was needed. I understand they are having a ‘soft refurb’ and while our room hadn’t yet been updated, it was still pretty decent and suited our purpose. Add to that a decent flat screen tv and free wifi for all your devices, I’d say that was win win! If it suits your budget and your location requirements, I wouldnt hesitate to recommend.

Stayed for two nights and from the minute I checked in, I could not wait to check out. Got to my room, nice view yes, but holes in pillows and bed sheets. Then found food stains all over furniture and curtains. Walls were filthy with dirt marks and white paint was more like yellow after years of not freshened up on bathroom door. Out dated and in need of major updates and room quality itself was appalling. Bar service was slow downstairs and took almost 15 minutes for my drink to be brought to my table, funny thing is that i was the only table waiting and drinks so such bad service. Never again will I stay at this hotel. 110 pounds per night and it was a dump… shame on them!!!
