First time I had been to this restaurant. The staff where welcoming — you first sit in a bar area where you can have drinks and look through the menu. I ordered Keema Mutter which I have never had before and turned out to be delicious. Once you have ordered your food, you remain in the bar area until a waiter takes you through to your table — with poppadoms already waiting. Shortly after your starters come out. The time between eating each course where perfect. The food was very good and really enjoyed the experience. The only downside is they automatically charge a 10% service charge. I am a strong believer that a service charge or tip should only be given if someone goes beyond what they would normally do in their job description. Tipping should be optional and not forced upon a customer. Apart from that I really enojoyed food and would recommend.

Absolutely the best curry I’ve ever had. The keema mutter is a must! Also try lamb chop appetizer and garlic nan.

Rajdoot? More like Rajdon’t. Tasteless chili chicken garlic. Mostly tasted like boiled chicken. Over priced and underspiced. I will not come back here again. Very disappointed.

This place is amazing. Period. Ok, so we showed up at 5:55. They open at 6:00. When they opened the restaurant they had us wait at the bar area and took our food order. They made us wait to sit at our table and kept saying they were setting up our table but there was no one else in the restaurant and all the tables were set. We waited in the bar area for 40 minutes. I would suggest you don’t show up till at least 6:30. That being said, this was the most delicious Indian food I have ever eaten. Seriously. The minced lamb is unbelievably good. I can’t recommend it enough. The garlic naan is fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful. The staff is nice but seemed a little disinterested in us. I don’t want to dock them for that because honestly, it’s the best meal I have eaten in the U.K. Me and my group are trying to figure out if we can eat here again before they close tonight :)

I went here, after Unilocaling what was in the Bham area, with my sister and my 10 month old boy on a Tues night. It was difficult to find street parking but once we were inside, we were really pleased we chose this restaurant for my last night in Bham. The décor was very inviting and it made us feel like we were in a different country. After waiting in the bar area with our drinks, we were shown into the main dining area. We had the Rajdoot platter to start(portions were really big we couldnt finish the dish). I had the Chicken Maghlai, my sister ordered the Saag Ghosht and we shared the coriander naan and rice. This place is by far the best Indian restaurant I have been to. The atmosphere, the food and the service was amazing. I would definitely be going back here again when I am next passing through Bham. If you want an upscale Indian, this is the place to go.

I have driven past the Rajdoot many times. It has been on the radar waiting for that special occasion and Saturday night we thought we would treat ourselves in celebration of not having the kids with us. I’ve not been to the Rajdoot since it moved from B’ham city centre many, many years ago. It was well respected then, in fact the last time I was there was also a special occasion and I was allowed into the kitchen to help cook my own naan bread! Before you walk in you know it’s not going to be cheap and stepping inside confirms this. I love the plush, warm décor of the Rajdoot but unfortunately on the night the ambience didn’t live up to the surroundings. It was marred by a loud table to our right and a toddler to the left doing his best to attract mom & dad’s attention. We were seated in the lounge area where we ordered our drinks and studied the menu before being escorted into the dining area. We did note that there is not a lot of choice on the menu and your more usual Bangladeshi favourite may not be there however there are some more imaginative dishes to replace them. This is quite normal for establishments that consider themselves to be upmarket. At a smartly dressed table, the complimentary popadoms(nice surprise) were waiting albeit there were only three halves between us. They were accompanied by an onion salad and mint yoghurt which we thought had a sharp taste. We had our usual sheek kebab and onion bhaji starters. The bhaji was a bit dry but I could taste some fresh spices coming through the kebab although it didn’t look like it had been done in a tandoor. Both starters were on the hot side, in my opinion too hot and the yoghurt sauce didn’t help so my wife requested a milder yoghurt which helped. The salad was pleasant but nothing special and there were no fried onions, not that I thought I was going to get any. The mains arrived after a respectable wait. My lamb saag was excellent, very tasty, and slightly hot as requested, the meat was lean & tender, I couldn’t fault it. Unfortunately my wife’s bhoona was far too hot for her. I tried it and agreed that it was actually hotter than my dish so we had to send it back. The replacement duly arrived but this was hotter than the first, miscommunication perhaps? So this too went back. A third dish arrived and still no better, very slightly milder than the first but with a thin peppery taste. She’s not fussy, I wouldn’t have enjoyed it either and by this time I had finished my meal. Our waiter was were very obliging during this time and without hesitation offered to remove it from the bill which was professional of him but the evening had been spoiled. I must add that the pilau rice was fine, the naan very nice but a little on the small side. Still nibbly, we looked at the desert menu which is traditional Indian fare plus ice cream and fruit salad, feeling a bit deflated we passed A modest meal will set you back at least £30 per head and it could easily be considerable more depending on menu choice; wine and drinks. Sadly we left deflated; the night had been an expensive disappointment. I accept it could have been another story if my wife had opted for a different main but it may have not as the style of food is more homestyle biased towards the Indian preference. This is not a criticism, many restaurants quite rightly do it and as I said, I prefer this style of food. Regular customers will know what they’re getting but new customers won’t so I suggest that you check your choice with the waiter before you order and remind that the limited menu means there aren’t many options. My opinion is that the Rajdoot’s strengths are its service and décor which is excellent but I think there is room for improvement in both the menu and food. Three stars on the night which I hope would be four next time

The ambience in Rajdoot is really lovely. When you arrive you are greeted by very friendly and helpful staff and seated in the bar while drinks orders are promptly taken and delivered, they then take your food order. When you arrive at your table poppadoms & trimmings are being laid out. The food is delicious, you can really tell the difference between other indian restaurants — the Rajdoot is on another level! My partner ordered the Rajdoot Chicken which was a tangy sweet & sour sauce with indian spices and I ordered Makhan Chicken which was mild but spicy and really tasty, the meat for both tasted fresh and succulent. We had a lovely evening, I particularly love the décor and lighting. Very high standard of service and the food was perfection! I would advise if you don’t like very hot food that you avoid the hotter dishes which I can tell you from previous experience are hotter than in most Indian restaurants! Prices are slightly higher than most but it’s well worth it.

As soon as I walked in the sheer smell of all the other meals was already making my mouth water! We were greeted by a friendly waitress who took us to our table and offered us both a jug of water and our choice of an alcoholic beverage; we opted for a bottle of red wine. It was relatively expensive at £24 but it was very good quality which complemented the meal tremendously. Food wise, I started with the gingered lamb chops which were succulent and tender. For my main I tried the chicken moghlai which came in a nice creamy sauce. We shared a rice, chips and nan bread and by the end of the meal I was completely stuffed! I would like to say I tried a desert but it wasn’t humanly possible for me. The waiter was very attentive and didn’t mind topping up our drinks for us.

This is as good as it gets for Indian and Pakistani food in Birmingham. I’ve been using Rajdoot for many, many years because the food is out of this world, the service is impeccable and the décor is alluringly, luxurious. I love this place, I mean I REALLY love this place. I have taken friends and colleagues there on many occasions and they too have been extremely impressed. I have tried most things on the menu, however, for my latest visit I chose the Chicken Shashlik to start; tender pieces of moist Chicken, marinated in delicate herbs and spices served on a crisp salad. For main, I had the Keema Muttar. Minced Lamb and sweet, green peas, deliciously tasty. I chose two chapatis to scoop it up into my mouth and wasn’t happy until all signs of there having been food on the plate were gone. All this washed down with two pints of Kingfisher Indian beer. This place is frequented by the famous, it’s a favourite of Aled Jones whenever he’s in Birmingham.

If you get the most delectable Indian food at home, you have extremely high standards when you eat out at an Indian Restaurant. However, there is only one eatery that I recommend for the best Indian food in Birmingham, and that’s Rajdoot Restaurant. It’s testament to fine dining in elegant surroundings without pretentious prices or service. The staff is always welcoming and professional. If you’re planning on visiting over a weekend then I recommend you book a table because this restaurant is a popular place. My absolute favourite is the creamy makhan chicken with chilli and coriander naan… I’m salivating at the thought of it! Street parking is available, which is free in the evenings. There is also a function room for private events where the restaurant offers set menus priced per person.

This is one of the most upmarket indian restaurants I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. It’s on the ground floor of a modern block of flats a stones throw from Birmingham city centre, out towards the Jewellry Quarter. It came highly recommended and rightly so. They were friendly, efficient and a cut above the average. The menu was concise, don’t go here with your heart set on a particular dish, because you might be disappointed. Instead, go with an open mind and try one of the chef’s specials, highly recommended by me! The wine list(yes, I know wine after cocktails, bad idea) was also short and sweet, but not quite as tight on the target as the food menu. It’s not cheap(£90 for three with two bottles of wine and no sparing the hungry horses), but we really did have a very good meal. I would definitely recommend that you wander the 10 minutes out of the city centre to search it out. The Vaults is a few doors down and is also well worth ambling along to: o)

The Raj Doot is a good restaurant, i’ve been a few times and always really enjoyed it. It’s got a good menu and the food is always excellent. There’s usually a really good atmosphere and the staff will go out of their way to make sure you have an excellent meal. It’s pretty good value for money, not too expensive but and considering the quality of the food im more than happy to pay for a meal out here.
