Rooty’s closed for business about 20th March 09. Not sure if/​when it will re-​open. Boo-​hoo! We miss the friendly and helpful staff and the great food/​soup.

I don’t often eat in at Rootys but go to get a takeaway for lunch when I’m working round the corner in Digbeth. I think they may have had a change in chef as I think the food has improved markedly. They do great fish dishes now but my favourite has to be the dals/​lentil dishes they serve up often. The food is fresh, healthy (but not boring!) and tasty. The chef is often around so you can always ask him more about the dishes (he has offered me tasters before of dishes I wasn’t sure of!). The staff are always friendly and in the summer it is a great place to sit outside and enjoy lunch al fresco!

Rooty Fruit’s is nestled away in the corner of the arty custrard factory. The food served here is absolutely delicious. There is no meat served but even the most hardened, red meat eater will be hard pushed not to be pleased.
The company has an ethical policy and interior and furniture gives the place a very chilled and relaxed vibe, although the place is very popular and you may be forced to sit outside.
They do special deals on certain specials throughout the week, charging £4 for a bowl and £5.50 for a plate. Bowl’s enough for lunch but if you’re pretty hungry go for a plate.
A great place for energising the vegetarian persuasion in you.
