Sandra Dorne is a hairdressers that has been in Kingstanding for years, recently moving up to the Hawthorn shopping area from College Road. I have had my hair done here a couple of times but usually just take the kids’ up for their trims because I’ve never been keen on the end result that I’ve been left with. For a start I find this hairdressers is always full of pensioners, now I’ve nothing against pensioners of course but I don’t particularly want to be surrounded by the blue rinse brigade when I’m going for a funky new look. Then the hairdresser will always try to talk me out of whatever I want to the point where I have to watch her like a hawk as she’s cutting as I’m worried to death she’s going to experiment on me! The end result is never how I really wanted my hair to look, although this is never completely apparent until I have paid and got home! The girls’ in Sandra Dorne are all lovely, and I think it’s this which puts me off complaining really because it’s obvious they’ve done their best but are just more comfortable applying poodle perms to old ladies! When I take my daughters’ in it’s simply for a trim and to get their fringes cut and this is always perfect, they never take off more than they should and even managed to hold my baby daughter down for a quick cut when she was just 13 months old and almost blinded by her fringe. Prices are very reasonable and Sandra Dorne often require models for the student hairdressers to work on. I’ve never done this myself but a friend of mine had her hair coloured by the student and she did a really good job, with the salon owner watching her all the time so there were no mistakes made. You’ll always be offered a cup of tea or coffee while waiting for your appointment, and another during your cut which is nice as the hairdressers I go to now doesn’t even offer one drink so if I’m in for a two hour appointment then it’s a thirsty time!
