The Dance Workshop

I’ve been coming to the Dance Workshop in Moseley for about 8 months now. It’s right in the centre of Moseley and offers quite the variety of classes for children and adults.
There are 3 dance studios located inside. One of them is a bit of a pain to learn in if your class is busy. It has a support pillar right down to the floor in the centre of the room. But the other two are brilliant with no obstacles and good sound systems to boot.
What’s nice about this place (besides it’s great location, café on site and friendly staff) is the seasonal changing of the classes. I’m currently taking a beginners commercial dance that was just added in January. There is also a new dance fitness class that works every muscle in your body! Classes are generally between £5 to £7. You don’t have to reserve a spot either. Just show up and pay that day.
The only problem I found is if the class is not heavily attended it is cancelled. It’s the drawback of offering drop in classes. People may not show! It happened to my zumba class twice. Which is why you should bring your friends!
Whether you are passionate for dance, looking for a fun way to exercise, or just looking to meet people, Dance Workshop offers something for everyone!

I’ve only set foot in the Dance Workshop for a quick juice with a mate, but it’s a fantastic place to visit and a great place to meet friends.
I must say I love Dance, watching as well as partaking and it’s a credit to the cultural mix of Moseley Village that it can carry off such a place at the Dance Workshop.
Whilst I was there I witnessed the excitement of people who had just finished classes or were hurrying to begin a session, which created a dynamic atmosphere.
Although my co-​ordination and rhythm aren’t the greatest, I sensed from the staff there that this wasn’t a place that carried an altitude and was really about welcoming people and being an inclusive place, where all abilities could partake in a one class or another.
There was an incredible range of dance styles to choose from, and for me the tap dance stood out as a particularly appealing venture.

I think every high street needs a Dance Workshop in the middle of it. But then, that’s because I think life should be like a musical…
Positives about the Dance Workshop: they offer a great range of classes — this is particularly impressive considering the size of the venue. They also have a really good reputation for a lot of their classes — particularly flamenco (although I think they’ve now taken that off their roster) and belly dance. They also have a lovely café — which is perfect post work-​out. Or even if you’re just hanging around in Moseley.
Personally, I found the classes that i went to a little difficult to get into, as I joined half way through the term (I was doing flamenco and capoeira) and found it really difficult to get up to speed. Personally I prefer drop in drop out style classes. Also, one of the classes had a sort of pillar in the room which I kept finding myself behind and couldn’t see what was going on. I think the Dance Workshop needs a bit more space for its classes as they are popular — which has to be a good sign, but can lead to somewhat cramped classes.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll love to dance! Be it salsa, belly-​dancing or bhangra; I have a zest for learning different dance forms around the world. And this is precisely what the Dance Workshop in Moseley offers.
You can even try out tango, ballroom and Latin, ballet, contemporary, tap, street dance, rock and roll and for those who are wildly adventurous — pole dancing! If you’re more into keeping fit then there are zumba, tai chi, Pilates and karate classes available too. Prices vary but generally it’s around £5 for a class, which is pretty average for the area.
The joint is hip with a Bohemian feel to the reception area. The staff give a pleasant and warm ambience to the place so you feel relaxed as soon as you enter. The entrance opens up to a coffee shop where you can hang out with friends or grab a bite after a workout with sandwiches, cakes and hot drinks.
