This is a great little vibrant bar deep in the gay village. I don’t want to compare this to Soho and the other(one) lesbian bar/s in London — but the one difference I will point out is the people. Unlike in the London bars, this place is clearly about good friends coming out to have a good time. A great mix of the older and younger lesbian and a very friendly and un-predatory place. We managed to wander in on Karaōke night(score), and there’s nothing about really getting a feel for the place when people are warbling bad pop tunes down a microphone. There was a nice enough selection behind the bar and a few drink offers. There’s a large beer garden with plenty of seating, a main bar area with a dinky DJ booth and another room with the obligatory pool table and additional seating. Surprisingly, there’s only one toilet — and all night I had no problem in going for a tinkle. I wish I could move this bar down south with me, but I can’t. And if I ever return to olé bham– I will certainly pop in again.

Although I’m not gay, I go here quite regularly with my 2 girl friends. The music is always great and quite varied, but it’s the crowd that really make this place great. I’ve never seen nor experienced any trouble here, which is also a bonus. My only grip is that there is never enough bar staff!

What a Fantastic night. I was nervous even thou I am a Gay Male, I have never been around so many Women and I thought I would be threatened but No, I felt more at ease here than I do in the Gay male places. I find they are either full of Camp Queens or Men just looking for one thing ! Fantastic night, looking forward to going again. Bar staff very friendly — If I could give more than 5* I would. 100% Gets busy but there is a large garden for the smokers or people like the cool air during these hot sunny evenings. I noticed a pool/snooker table. Male & Female toilets and a good selection of drinks and not as expensive as some of the gay pubs that like to rip us off. I will see Lesbians in a different light and not be so afraid. THANKSTOTHEFOXFOR A WONDERFULEXCITINGEVENING and I was on the Cola so you do not have to be drunk enjoy yourself. ***********************************************************************

Birmingham’s only Lesbian bar is alive and kicking. I called in here just once a few weekends ago, not having been here before but having heard of it through friends. The décor is nice and trendy, which reminded me of some of the bars in London’s Soho. Although I was the only bloke in here, and at first it felt a little strange, but once I had started chatting, and flirting with some of the punters, it was a good laugh. The music was typical chart and pop, and the drinks are reasonably priced for a city bar. I found the bar area very small, and it felt very hot and sticky after a short while. So I didn’t stay very long. The crowd is mixed, predominantly young and middle-aged females, all singing the night away, longing for their princess to walk in. Also popular with students and freshers on Thursday nights.

On a recent night out with a friend of mine, we headed to the gay quarter for a night of fun. We use to go there as they have great drink specials and the vibe is always good. We had been to a few bars in the area but this bar was different. It was a lesbian only bar which I’d never heard of before. Although it was really busy, as soon as we arrived I was instantly impressed. When we walked in we were greeted by smiles all round and some sign along funky music. The place had a great vibe and everybody was really friendly.

The Fox is full of hot ladies — as it should be, being the only dedicated lesbian bar in the gay village, and just off the main area of Hurst St. When I say FULL of hot ladies, what I mean is on a busy Saturday night it’s a bit like a can of sardines in there(seriously, no pun intended!) and to get to the bar or the small(but perfectly formed) beer garden you’ll need to prepare yourself for a lot of squishing and wedging and rubbing up against strangers. Which, funnily enough, is not entirely unpleasant. As long as you’re mentally prepared! Framed black and white prints of Madonna and the like adorn the walls, and the music is loud and mostly pop — with anthemic songs causing the place to feel a bit like a giggly pyjama party as the inebriated girls chant along in chorus. I visited here with my other half(who happens to be male) and there was no trouble, no funny looks or anything, despite him being the wrong gender for such a place. I think The Fox is ace, and will be steering my lesbian friends there whenever they’re in town!
