Been going here to watch the bog movies I love and been looking forward to. It is one of the biggest IMAX screen in UK and it is so worth it. If you watch a movie that is shot for IMAX it just immerse you in the story and world more.

Brilliant cinema! Seating is comfortable and spacious, with no one blocking your view. There is no fuss here at all, when it’s time to go into the screen a gentleman at the bottom of the stairs hands out the 3D glasses and you go up to your designated seat. there are no kids who have wandered in off the street and no people on mobiles or chatting during the film. This is because the tickets are slightly more than most cinemas in the City and you have to walk purposely to get there-you are not just wandering in off a main shopping street. Having said that, it’s only a few minutes walk from town at Millennium Point. Food and drink is not over priced like at other cinemas however. A pint is approx. £3.10 and nachos around £3 with a dip. Definitely worh seeing big action visual films here such as Godzilla!

I love different cinema venues, and this is a great one. Situated in Millennium Point, it’s often surrounded by exhibitions and displays. So, there’s only one screen, compensating for lack of choice by being absolutely huge, on which you can watch the latest blockbusters or some vintage pieces. I saw Labyrinth and Tremors here, both of which were brilliant– and on the big screen it was great to see so many things I hadn’t noticed before. Tremors was part of the cinema’s monster week, leading up to the Godzilla week. The seating is set on quite high tiers, so you don’t get an obscured view, although the lack of aisles can make navigation a bit tricky. Snacks and drinks are pretty standard– slushies, dodgy looking burgers, nachos, hotdogs, although you can get beer and cider to take in with you. Compared to cinema ticket prices these days, I thought the entry was pretty reasonable.

When I think 3D Cinema, i immediately think £££! This place is changing the face of IMAX in Birmingham. First off, an offpeak 3DIMAX ticket is £8.50(a little extra with booking fee). Secondly, you can get 2 large drinks and a popcorn for £5.50! That presents a huge saving in comparison to the Cineworld and Odeon offerings in the City Centre. The Cinema is well presented, clean and seats are pre-booked(meaning you don’t have to worry about getting in early to get a decent view or paying«premium» price seating to sit in the middle). I would recommend a look at this place before you head to your normal movie theatre. Parking at the Millenium point carpark is £3 all day on Sunday(which gives you a chance to have a wander around and check out Thinktank too), but parking on-street is free out the front.

Massive screen. Giant building. Not much to say about here. Not the best place to come for variety as there’s only one screen. An impressive place to watch a blockbuster though.

I’m struggling to see why this place has received such distressingly low reviews, as I certainly haven’t shared the bad experiences, however, I guess anywhere can have it’s off days. It’s an unusual cinema in it’s set up, in that it’s at Millenium Point, so has a real feel of being in the middle of a University, due to exhibitions and lecture halls surrounding you. I find it quirky and like the fact that you can walk around the exhibits while you’re waiting or after the film. One thing that I will say is that I’m not a fan of the small selection of unhealthy food and drinks, but it’s no worse than any mainstream cinema would have! The cinema is also pricey, but to me it’s worth paying a little extra for the size of the screen alone. Especially if you’re going to see something in 3D, there’s not really any comparison to seeing on a screen that size. The picture and sound quality are great and I love the fact that it shows educational films. I always look out for when they are showing dinosaur features. I know, I know, sad geek. Overall I would say that this place is not convenient for regular visits, but is a nice break from the norm and an excellent place to watch something that you are really excited about, for example, I took my Husband to see Prometheus there and I’m so glad that I did. It really was an experience rather than just watching a movie.

Don’t be mistaken, this screen isn’t an Imax. It was the Midlands only Imax screen for 10 years but being an independent cinema it was too costly to keep on, especially with the lack of movies with Imax content. However, the giant screen it was replaced with(see where they got the name?) is actually bigger than most Imax digital screens and usually a better quality picture. I understand that there are differences regarding the ratio with movies that have been filmed specifically for Imax but personally I think you would have to be a real aficionado to know the difference, most people I know didn’t even realise the change. The screen is… giant. 70ft wide, and perfect for the big summer blockbusters that they can now show there. I’ve seen a couple already, both in 3D, and I can say it was worth the slightly more expensive price than if I had gone to one of the other regular cinemas in town. Even though it’s already a little more pricey it’s worth going even further and paying the extra couple of quid for the premier seats at the back, big and comfortable and you’re not squashed next to some stranger. It’s not just entertainment either, they still show educational 3D movies for schools which ties nicely into the Think Tank which is also part of Millennium Point, and also concerts and large sporting events now too. In my opinion it’s still the best screen in Brum, at least for the blockbusters. For charm, art and a more cultured experience then you should try the Electric Cinema but to watch action heroes blow things up in 3D, the Giant Screen is perfect!
