This is a review of the B&B side of the business, and not the pub side. I booked a room here for one saturday night in October, as somewhere to stay before the Birmingham half marathon. The room was £40 and for this I got a twin room with en suite and breakfast in the morning. The staff at the pub who showed me to the room were lovely and got me checked in no problem. Only after paying was I told that the pub was open till 4am, oh no I thought. After grabbing a spot of dinner in town and heading back to my room did the magnitude of the noise from the pub become apparent. It was loud, I mean really loud. Room shockingly loud. This perhaps wasn’t benefitted by the window that didn’t really seal properly and also allowed a draught in — thank goodness for the spare duvet on the other bed to keep me warm. Eventually I fell asleep, waking to think of the breakfast waiting downstairs. I popped downstairs to the bar, or tried to as it was locked. A chap on the door and I was eventually let in and shown to a table to breakfast, which consisted of cereal and toast. To say I was disappointed

I used to sing live with des Ryan on Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings. Teats on my pillow and she’ll be coming round the mountain became my most requested songs. Odd occasions i did gospel. We then moved to red hill then the dubliner. I then started to go to evenig church service. Now i have started to go to kerryman again to listen to live music. Its great fun. We have a singalong and a good dance from pop to rock to ballroom to jig. A pitcherof sex on the beach is usually on our table.

If you’re on the Digbeth High Street you certainly don’t need to ask«where’s there a pub around here?» I think it might be possible to actually leap from pub to pub. The Kerryman is halfway down the street so it would be your 2nd or 3rd jump. Like all of the Irish pubs on this street it doubles as a B&B, although like the other reviews mention I don’t know how you would get much rest as it’s a rowdy pub(in the best possible way) and stays open much later than most. Personally, I prefer it in the daytime and while it’s not my favourite joint on the street it’s still a good place to drop in and have a quick pint.

There is something different about the Irish pubs that get us and it’s certainly not just about Guinness! Most of the pubs in Brazil are Irish ones and I can not mention someone who ever complained about the atmosphere of these bars. The truth is that every single Irish pub I have visited had this welcoming vibe that makes us always to go back and The Kerryman pub, in Digbeth, is not different! I have been at The Kerryman few times and I confess that it’s always a good choice when you already had plenty of drinks, but there is always something to remember(or not) after every(new) visit to this pub. Such as music and celebration. Loud night where you know the party is on and you can barely listen what people are saying. During the St Patrick parade day in Birmingham it’s just impossible to enter on it due to the popularity of the place. The funny and interesting thing about The Kerryman is the fact it’s also a Bed & Breakfast place and I wonder if it’s possible to have some sleep when right below there is such a lively pub. I don’t think the guests would bother at all because there is always a solution to the insomnia downstairs going back to the pub! The Kerryman stays up usually until 4 am most of the days of the week. Good vibe, wonderful Irish atmosphere.

The Kerryman is one of the liveliest pubs in the Digbeth area and it’s certainly worth a visit if you’re looking for a fun evening in Birmingham. With everything from DJ’s to live music to entertain the customers you are guaranteed anything but a quiet night in this fantastic public house. Monday nights see an evening named free and easy where all singers are welcome to come and try their luck in front of the locals, so any wannabe musicians could do worse than getting some practice in at the Kerryman. On top of its qualities as a public house, the Kerryman also offers a bed and breakfast service where guests can expect to receive a typical Birmingham Irish welcome. The rooms include en suite and televisions and with such a central location it is a great place for visitors to the city to stay. Lively, full of energy and above all great fun, a real winner in the heart of the Irish quarter.
