Located on the Alcester Road in Kings Heath, The Pear Tree is a spacious, modern pub. Although my sensibilities normally attract me to more traditional, local style pubs, my first visit to The Pear Tree was essentially necessitated by an almost Biblical rain storm that made it impossible to walk ten paces without getting soaked through to the skin, and I’m glad that I picked The Pear Tree to take refuge in. Although many modern style pubs are anonymous and soulless, The Pear Tree has a warm, friendly atmosphere, with helpful, welcoming staff(possibly emphasised by my resembling of a drowned rat by the time I actually got inside). The prices are fantastic, better than many of the pubs in the student area of Selly Oak, with a pint of Guinness costing just £2.69, and a burger and drink available for £3.99. They also do a two meals for £5.99 offer on some of the items available on the menu, which is excellent value. The food is very average pub grub, but sometimes that’s just what you’re after.

The Pear Tree is part of the JD Wetherspoons family and you will find that you will receive the same menus, prices and daily offers. However, that atmosphere within this JD Wetherspoons is different to the many that I’ve been to like the JD Wetherspoons in Paradise Forum, The Square Peg and Lloyds bar as Kings Heath’s Pear Tree has an essence of student life and youth culture about it. The members of staff are cheeky and quirky, easy to get along with as well as their punters and customers. I think that this is a great place to socialise with friends and business partners, as it’s spacious enough to have your own privacy as well if ever you need a quiet drink away from reality. The location of The Pear Tree is accessible from any region in and around Kings Heath.
