When I used to live in the City Centre I found it hard to find cheap greasy spoon cafes outside of the Bullring Market. The entire City Centre seems to be geared towards materialistic shoppers, buying clothes that were painstakingly made in Pakistan by a ten year old boy. This is why I was glad when I found this little café that serves the best bacon baguette in the city centre.
I know there are lots of eating establishments open in the City Centre, but none have the appeal of a local café for local people, this one however does.
The tea they serve here is strong, always a good sign of a decent café. The black pudding on the Full English was also of fine quality. Despite this I always seem to go for the bacon sandwich or baguette every time I come here.
I would recommend this eatery as it is in close proximity to Snow Hill Station. If you have had a hard night out on a week night and need a hang over cure then come here and have a Full English to sort you out. The food is great, yet it doesn’t hold the City Centre price tag.

On your way in to Snow Hill train station you’ll find a little café which you can also take away from.
It’s not the most glamorous of settings as it’s just a typical small greasy spoon café. However, if you’re in a rush and in need a breakfast sandwich then this is the place for you.
Options include your basic café choices from a full English breakfast through to jacket potatoes. I’ve only ever eaten their sausage and egg sandwich which I always take away.
They do have inside seating options but with it being so close to the train station, many people use it as grab and go kind of place but the man who serves me always seems pleasent and happy to make small talk.

Based inside Snow Hill station just by the ticket office this is an unusual little café and takeaway that I always try and visit because a) they do a mean banana cake and b) the service here is lovely.
As well as cakes, coffee and tea — you may need to let the latter cool down by the way before you attempt to drink it as it is always hotter than the sun — they sell sausage rolls the size of a small child’s leg, samosas, spring rolls and a selection of sandwiches.
Their hot menu includes lots of Chinese dishes and is perhaps a bit expensive for a café but comes recommended and during the winter they sell soup.
Sweets, chocolate, newspapers are also available and they are situated next door to the wonderfully titled ‘Toffs’ dry cleaning service. If you are a commuter who wants more than an overpriced Pret sandwich for your journey and likes service with a smile then this is a good place to go.
