Victoria Square Cafe

I used to pop in here fairly regularly when I worked nearby. The prices are good and the service, tho’ somewhat idiosyncratic, is inevitably on the button. I’ve never received an incorrect order, nor have I been incorrectly charged. It’s surprising how often both occur when you actually take notice … or maybe I just look like a muggins ripe for a rip-​off!
The food is typically local greasy café style, so no surprises there. I pretty much order the same whenever I’m in such a place. Here you get too many chips, so don’t think they’re meanies, and too much marg on your bread. i don’t recommend you pop by right after open heart surgery or you’ll be back on the surgeons slab sharpish! I just leave the chips and scrape off the marg. The tea is fine … classic builders. The coffee is as rank as you’ll get in any similar gaff. No biggie. I don’t go here expecting top class, third wave coffee.
How does it look … well I don’t care much. It’s a greasy café innit! The place looks clean enough, there’s plenty of seating, either edge of the room style/​shelf or table and chair, generally the décor is as ‘particular’ as the service. Love it or hate it. They have plenty of papers to read and to me that’s important. I like to sit a while and have a read; you may not care.
So, of its type, it’s pretty typical and yet pretty particular and that’s not a bad thing.

You just don’t love when you’re starving and your hunger takes you to the right place sometimes? I do and it happened today! Yes, I probably have passed in front of this place zillion times but just today I have spotted Victoria Square Café.
And what a nice find! I didn’t pay too much attention to the menu, to be honest but I enjoyed the Mexican baguette and my latte as it was my last supper. I heard the place has a good reputation because its succulent and cheap breakfast and I may try one day.
But what captivates most about Victoria Square was the service. What a friendly staff. It seems to be ran by a family and the lady who prepared my sandwich was all smiles from the moment I entered this place until I left. 4 Stars to them even it is just a simple café in the city centre.
That makes an independent business successful and I definitely will go back to this café, specially because it’s near New Street Station and sometimes all you need is a tnice ake away in your way back home.

I am a regular here and have been for a while. You can’t knock this place, it may not be the cheapest but it’s quality. Much love guys!

I’m a fry up junkie and after Eastside Café closed down I was desperate to find a new breakfast spot. Sadly, the Victoria Square Café doesn’t look like it’s going to be ready to step into my heart any time soon.
They seemed to be staffed by happy but easily distracted teenagers, which was the first sign that things might not go smoothly. The food was greasy, cold and they they managed to add meat to the vegetarian breakfast. It was so bad that I couldn’t finish my breakfast. … I’ve never been unable to finish a breakfast!
I think that with some extra work they could get the food better pretty quickly. With edible food their service would seem quirky instead of maddening.

Victoria Square Café is quite a big ‘greasy spoon’, located just in front of Pinfold Street Post Office. They do really cheap fried breakfasts but also offer sandwiches, baguettes, jacket potatoes, fish and chips, ice creams and other meals.
It’s quite a handy place to grab some food on the way to work or the train station and they also accept orders via phone or fax so you can order from the office.

If you leave the train station from the back entrance and walk directly over the crossing, you’ll see a hill straight in front of you. Keep walking up and on your right just opposite the Post Office you’ll find the best little café in Birmingham City Centre.
OK so it’s not the most glamorous of settings as it’s just a typical greasy spoon café. However, if you’re hung over and in need a proper breakfast sandwich then this is the place for you!
Options include your basic café choices from a full English breakfast through to jacket potatoes. I’ve only ever eaten their sausage and egg sandwich which I always take away.
They do have inside seating options but with it being so close to the square, if it’s a nice day there are plenty of benches outside for you to choose from.
My only recommendation, ask for extra sauce!

Although this has good interior seating and they offer several take-​away options, the service was not too good. Maybe this was because they were very busy, but they could smile to paying customers.
Several options are available, try the 100% pure fruit smoothies, which is my recommendation available in lots of flavours. Although it’s nice inside, has comfortable stools, I preffered getting take-​away and sitting outside in the sunshine.
But if your after some quick food, lunch or brunch they do have a substantial menu, and I felt their prices were also reasonable. Not bad, a nice little café.

Good selection of food — excellent portions at very reasonable prices.
What sets this place apart is the service — polite, attentive service, very family friendly. My children love it — and that’s a good enough reccommendation for me.

A reasonably-​priced little greasy spoon dive I suppose, in a reasonable price though it’s off Victoria Square not on it. It is cheap and reasonably friendly and I suppose it is rare to find a place like that in the newly-​refurbished, fashionable Brum these days!
They only have the one toilet which is unisex down in the basement — just to add to atmosphere I went down there and opened it only to find a charming girl who was busy cutting the security tags off some clothes she’d just bought (ahem!) and had forgotten to lock the door!
It just summed the place up beautifully!

I’m not sure if I could attribute the words ‘stylish’ and ‘elegant’ to Victoria Square Café, but I can certainly recommend it as a cheap and cheery eatery ideal for a cup of coffee or a fry up before work or on a lunch time. Tucked away but at the same time so central it makes a great place to meet people for lunch if ambience and atmosphere are not high priorities and avoids the crowds and rip-​off prices of the main chains around the corner!

I recently found this place while looking for a Saturday morning hangover breakfast a few weeks ago.
I was pleasantly surprised as I didn’t think café’s like this existed in the city anymore and thought I’d have to be subjected to a Wethersppons breakfast!
I had the full works and I must say there was absolutley no grease left swimming on the plate afterwards, the staff are very friendly, I even got a free Aero hot Chocoloate drink as I wasnt sure whether I’d like it so he gave me a free one to try!

This café is situated in the best part of town in Victoria Square, its stylish, elegant and the food is immaculate as they do all day breakfast fine lunches and a lot of hot and cold drinks with up and down stairs seating it is very cosy and you will feel at home here.
