Only a small waitrose but in a useful location, right outside of the station. The staff are helpful and friendly and just as you’d expect them to be in a waitrose, always happy to help. It is only a small store but it has everything you would hope to find and a really good wine selection too. The other thing well worth mentioning is, no matter how busy it seems, the staff always clear the queues really fast. I don’t know where waitrose’ reputation for being pricey comes from as I have had some really great deals, not just from this store but from waitrose as a whole, I had a bottle of amaretto for £9.99 and that was cheaper for the branded name than my usual supermarket was charging for unbranded! Always consistent in quality, it’s a great little supermarket in the business area.

It took me a while to warm to this store. Now a coffee addict I was told that I can get a free coffee by just showing my waitrose card. I bit sceptical that I could just get a free coffee, including a latte or cappuccino I had to do it myself to believe it. Depending on queues I will get a coffee most work days. I do on occasion get my lunch from here and I really enjoy their range the most. The sushi looks more authentic and I really want to try one of their bento boxes. Some of their ‘basic range’ does make me laugh a bit at what the customer target would consider essentials but apart from slightly pricey food I do think they are a bit more creative with what they put out.

This is one of the few smaller Waitroses I know of, but considering its location right in the middle of the Colmore Business Direct and close proximity to Snow Hill station, it really can’t be any bigger. However, it has more to offer than the other supermarkets in the area. There’s one free tea and coffee at any time of day for those with a Waitrose card and I can’t stress enough how much you should get one. There is great service and the staff are always willing to give you an extra hand. The store always seems clean and tidy and its easy to navigate. There are good discounts and these start to be shown from around 5pm onwards. They are hidden around the store so keep your eyes open!

I love love LOVE Little Waitrose on Colmore Row in Birmingham city centre. Not because it’s Waitrose and their produce is good quality(though it is) but because they do the best end of the day reductions of all the little supermarkets in Birmingham. The other reason I love them is because they do the best supermarket sushi(imho) and still use raw fish in it too. I have yet to figure out exactly what time the staff go around reducing items, but if you catch it at the right time, you can get a Berliner for 15p, a tray of sushi for £2 or a loaf of bread for 45p. Oh and as an extra bonus, if you pick up a MyWaitrose card, you can get a free cup of coffee from their bean-to-cup machine which is great for the supercheap price of zero pence. And the coffee tastes pretty good too, which must be something because I’m a pretty big coffee snob ;) Definitely worth popping in if you’re passing anyway.

When little Waitrose opened in Birmingham, I thought I would never use it. I didn’t really see myself as a «Waitrose» person(thinking it would price me out), but I am a total convert. Firstly, a lot of their products aren’t –that– much more pricey than going to Tesco or an equivalent supermarket. Secondly, the quality of the products definitely outweighs the increase in price. Even items like their chopped tomatoes are markedly thicker and more full than buying a cheapo alternative. Last(but not least) their reduced bargains are amazing. If you catch the store at the right time of day, you can pick up some real steals on meat, veg and bakery produce. I have bought a leg of lamb for under £3 in here(not to mention 9p sausages and 2 ready meals for £2). It’s of note that I have had some amazing clearance alcohol bargains too! Picked up nice bottles of wine for 70% off here just last week! If you are a Waitrose card holder, you can grab a small tea or coffee(and it’s not bad) for free every day. If you spend over £5, you get a free newspaper too!

Yes I would love to buy everything I need at local little independent businesses but striking a balance between often pricier indies(well worth the money, I know) and few bits from Waitrose means I can still pay the rent. It’s not that I had the opening of ‘Little Waitrose’ market in my diary for several weeks before they opened(OK, yes I did) but I’m very pleased this biggie arrived to shake up the monopoly of the usual supermarkets. OK it is a small version of their usual size but they do stock the New York Vanilla Cheesecake that would be my preferred last meal on earth so all is OK. Plus they always have deals, much like M&S which is still my fave big supermarket. But this place is very handy, especially when I have walked out of M&S and not bought the milk. Very good for Snow Hill commuters too. Oh, and wait till the end of the day(they open till10pm) and you’ll hopefully pick up some reduced treats too. It’s a winner.

It’s Little Waitrose and it is my favourite non indie supermarket in Brum. Come in here after 6.45pm and you can often walk away with multiple cake/pastry/bread treats! I like it because it is small and crams in lots of quality stuff.
