Ramshaw Transport

I hired this company based on it’s competitive rates for a removal simply between two counties last year. The day before someone rang us up to tell us we could ONLY have the van use for a couple of hours because another van had broken down. They ALSO wanted to charge us an extra £50 for the courtesy! In the end I was told:
NEVER MIND LOVE WE DON’T NEED YOUR BUSINESS.
I’m guessing it was the smaller of the two jobs, so this company decided to cancel, and was rude and insulting to boot! All I can say is if you want to risk getting your job cancelled the day before, GO AHEAD WITH CAUTION. They caused us undue stress and cost because of this and had absolutely no care about it either! Typically I read similar reviews online afterwards.
They were lucky we didn’t go to trading standards over the way we were treated.

Guys, Check out other review sites, these reviews are clearly in the main written by Ramshaws themselves. I have to say that this is the worst excuse for a business that I have ever seen. Based on lies, aggressive bully tactics and extortionate charging policies over and above the initial quote. The Vans turned up 4 hours early!!! We asked them to arrive after midday so they were not waiting around for contract to exchange and keys to be collected. Looked great the were keen to get on with the job, no problems. Not the professional image portrayed by the website, looked outside and the scruffy vans and scruffy rabble of misfits stood in the drive. The vans arrived with with no additional boxed or lifting equipment as agreed. Shortly after the owner arrived, being very aggressive, shouting and swearing at my girlfriend. because, this was obviously our fault even though we had agreed that he would bring additional boxes and lifting equipment for our heavy furniture. An absolute bully. When I challenged him on his behavior, he reminded that we had already paid and he would leave all of our stuff on the drive and we could find some one else. When I agreed to this and asked for the money back he just laughed and said that it was not refundable. So in an awkard position we carried on with the removal feeling we had no other choice. Thank fully this wired, aggressive and abusive bully left the job for something else leaving his ‘team’ to complete. Eventually we completed at around 1400 hrs and got the keys. A phone call from the bully advising that £450 waiting time had to be paid before he would tell his team to unload the van. even though they had turned up 4 hours before requested this again was my fault and I was going to have to pay for it. After a long and heated argument on the phone I agreed that we would pay some of this, but not all, and the bully knowing he was holding us to ransom, said he would keep our stuff in storage until we had paid. We called the police in amongst this but unfortunately there was not a lot that they could do at this point to help get our stuff from these pirates At this point, absolutely furious that I had been taken in by this swindling cowboy (who was a completely different person when he cam to the house, to visually check what we had and prepare a full and final quote) to my shame I called an old friend who is a bit of a bruiser and a bit of a bully himself. It was the only way I could see us getting our stuff back. When he arrived, I don’t know what was said to the Ramshaw team but they were very happy to get our stuff off the van as quickly as possible and into our home. Once done we gave the team some of the charge requested but asked them to keep it for themselves and tell the bully we had not paid at all. There are lots of morals to this story.
Do not use Ramshaws.
DO NOT PAY BEFORE THE JOB they phoned demanding the full payment one day before the job this should have rung alarm bells instantly, but again to my shame I just did not have time to argue, say no or find someone else with one days notice.
I’m sure if you read through this again you will find the other morals! If you read this and do use Ramshaws, good luck and make sure you have extra money and a huge angry friend to help you get your stuff back

Great from the word go would use again and again and i will do see you in 6 months when we get another posting GREAT COMPANY

My advice to anyone is DO NOT USE Ramshaw’s Removals. In Feb 2011 I called them for a quote for my elderly aunt. She has very bad health problems and recently lost her husband. She is quite stressed so we have been helping her move to the city from her rural home.
On my first call to ‘Andy’ the boss, I described the items to be moved. I itemised the furniture and discussed the amount of clothes, ornaments and other small items. He did NOT offer to visit the property as stated on the website and said he had enough information to do a quote as it was a small job.
I was told the price would be £295 including VAT plus £200 for packing, so about £500 all in for what he said was an 8 hour job. I was also told to expect uniformed professional staff who would pack everything into appropriate boxes. I was also told they would bring hanging rails for the clothes. He also said they would come in a large truck at 9am.
My aunt paid the deposit, but when the final bill came they had charged £295 PLUS VAT, and £250 PLUS VAT for packing. The total bill was shown as over £650. She queried it and they eventually knocked £100 off after she tried to cancel the job, but not before insulting several other moving companies she had quotes from.
The day before the move they DEMANDED the balance before the work was done, then said the crew would be late.
The crew turned up at 10am in a Luton box van. They were not uniformed. One was wearing tracksuit bottoms and sports trainers. The first thing they asked for was a cuppa. I felt sorry for them as they didn’t finish their last job until midnight the night before so were tired. I should point out that UK and EU law requires an 11 hour break between shifts, but not at Ramshaw’s.
Immediately there was a problem. They had a single wardrobe box, despite my aunt having two wardrobes full of clothes. When they rang the depot ‘Andy’ demanded my aunt pay another £200 over the phone as there were more clothes and possessions than we said. Had he done a survey as promised on the website, this would not have happened. My aunt was now in tears and was having palpitations with stress as Andy was threatening to pull the men off the job and effectively leave her stranded.
I took the phone and caught the tail end of what I would describe as Andy’s abusive and confrontational ranting. I told him to calm down and eventually Andy said I would have to pay his employees cash in hand if they worked over the 5 hours he had scheduled. Note he originally said 8 hours. I’m not sure of the legality of this, but it sounds a bit shady to me.
The fellas packed as fast as they could as they did not want to have to take money from an elderly woman, and in the end they got done by 3pm so well done to them. But as quick as they were they were not trained and professional movers. They were lifters and shifters like you would get with any man with a van mover.
But more to the point, I found Andy (the boss) to be an abusive and unprofessional man in my opinion. I would not hire his company to shovel muck, let alone handle your most treasured possessions. I genuinely can’t believe he reduced my aunt to tears with his angry and abusive shouting down the phone. He backed us in to a corner and tried to extort money from us. It’s a disgrace.
Mark my words, in my opinion this is the WORST company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I will NEVER use them or recommend them and will do everything I can to spread the word about how poor they are.
