The Cherry Tree at Blackrod

To be blunt, total garbage. Food, service and attitude leave much to be desired. Don’t risk it.
Don’t even wish to give it one star.

I have visited the Cherry Tree on several occasions and find it the perfect place for a drink with friends, a quick lunch, evening meals or even special occasions. I highly rate the manager Adam who is always happy to see us and ensures we enjoy our visit. I dont think the cleanliness or the food can be faulted. I don’t think the wait for the food is unreasonable, when it arrives you know you are getting quality food cooked from fresh. I think the menu is very diverse and it certainly keeps me coming back for more!

awful, absolute awful. nearly 3 hours for a 3 course meal. painfully slow service. tiny portions of food, if you managed to get the food you ordered. very expensive for what you get. the food itself is very average. add to that an ant invasion. left frustrated, tired and hungry.

We thought we would try a new place tonight for something to eat, we have eaten at the owners other restaurant (the Yew Tree) in the past so decided on the Cherry Tree as we have been passing the place for years as its thatch and thistle days.
We arrived at 4:30 to discover they didn’t serve dinner till 5pm no problem we got some drinks and waited. We were seated quickly and our order was also taken in good time by the same guy who showed us to the table, as we had spent the last half our deciding what we were having. Some of our party had starters others didn’t but the time between ordering and receiving food took an age, they were brought to the table by another person, clearing away also took a while. 5:45 still no sign of our main course and the staff were nowhere to be seen we weren’t quite sure who was serving us now. A little later the 2 steaks arrive, thinking that the other 2 meals would be out quickly another 5 minutes past before the other 2 meals arrived. We tried to order more drinks but again staff had vanished and the guy who brought the food took the drinks order eventually and he delivered them. The food was delicious, highly recommended you can’t fault it, clearing the plates was done after a while by the guy who seated us??? Its getting confusing now, at the same time we asked for the desert menu and he brought them out to us. We decided not to have desert mainly based on the price, £4.95 for all deserts except the cheese board which had a £1.50 supplement on it. Considering the ice cream is made 10 minutes up the road at Fredericks and is delicious. We gesture the guy who has been taking our orders for the bill he acknowledges us and sends another person to take our desert order so we asked for the bill, the time is now 6:40 we have had starters and a main course.
Now I understand that at busy times things take longer to come out of the kitchen, but 5pm on a Thursday evening, we were the first to order. We didn’t know who was tending to our table and even then the staff seemed to be very busy dealing with 12 or so tables out of possibly 20 that were in use at the time when we left and some hadn’t been seated that long and it was always someone different who came to you each time. Also not once did anyone come to «ask if it was all OK»
So the verdict is, food is fantastic starters and mains are good value about £2.50 for starters and most mains are less than £10 with rump steak being £15, deserts are over priced £4.95 for 3 scoops of ice cream no thanks.
But the service leads a lot to be desired, staff are difficult to get hold of, dirty dishes take ages to be cleared away, and food takes ages to get to you and it didn’t all arrive at the same time. I know its not a fast food place but you expect things to be prompt especially when the place isn’t full. I think we will go to the Yew tree next time.

Went with a friend on Saturday lunch, the place is very good, staff attentive, food excellent-​no complaints will be back very shortly with more friends.

Can’t fault the new Cherry Tree, was recommend to visit by friends, good food, good service nothing like the Thatch and Thistle (which was awful)
Just booked for Christmas and can’t wait to take friends and family!

we visited today at lunch, the place has had a nice refurb and the food is excellent. homemade as we expected. we had the chicken, bacon and mushroom pie which was of very good quality and everything coming from the kitchen looked just as good. we will definatley be back maybe on an evening aswell.

The Cherry Tree has been recently taken over and revamped (used to be Thatch & Thistle) — the décor is lovely, clean cut and the Cherry Tree theme is throughout the place.
We couldn’t fault our food — all made from scratch not a microwaved ready meal in sight!, great starters, a wide variety of choice and our table of 4 all had different starters so we saw the quality and quantity, which was great. The main courses are of a high standard, again all homemade and delicious. The service –well nothing was too much trouble for a young and very new team, all headed up by Adam as the manager. We have since returned at lunchtime and no doubt will return again, and again.
If you want cheap, cheerful and quickly served meals — then go to pub chains who do lovely micro meals! not the Cherry Tree.

Used to be «the Thatch and Thistle». Limited menu –usual pub grub of pies and curry. I had the king prawn salad at £9 which consisted of 7 prawns which were not king 2 cherry tomatoes 3 slivers of pepper no beetroot despite the menu description some chopped lettuce, a spoonful of coleslaw and no dressing at all. I asked for mayo which was a spoonful. My dining partner had the curry for £8 which consisted of a very small packet naan and two chunks of chicken in a tomato based sauce devoid of curry taste. The cutlery was late to arrive and £7 for a pint and a small wine. Reach your own conclusions.
