The Green Dragon- Braintree

Lunch time so we decided to visit one of our favourite haunts for a bite and a pint. Arriving, the pub was reasonably quiet with a few of us oldies having a treat. I ordered our drinks while we decided on what to eat from the extensive menu. Having decided, I ordered our food and returned to the table. Suddenly, a group of about 30 ramblers arrived totally filling the bar area while they ordered their drinks and food. After about 20 minutes, our food arrived. Lovely dishes of wings and smoked salmon followed by scampi and chips. Delicious. But then again, it always is in this establishment. After the starter I decided to have another pint but looking at the bar, it was still full of ramblers. So I decided to wait a while until they had been served. The mains arrived and I started eating but then noticed a lull at the bar so walked up to get my pint. The young lady was so busy making about 15 coffees, I waited, and waited. My partner beckoned me over because my food was getting cold. Therefore, no second pint.
Now, those two young ladies on duty were rushed off their feet so there is no complaint about the service or food. I do, however, feel that management could have helped them out. I also realise, that it is impossible to estimate trade on any particular day so staffing numbers can be a problem.
Anyway, a reasonably enjoyable lunch and we will return but next time, probably, order two pints at a time.

This is an ideal pub if there is a large party and the weather is good as there is loads of space in the garden — lovely inside the pub as well for weather not so nice — the food is definitely to be recommended — the staff are very efficient and helpful so you’re not hanging around ages waiting to be served or waiting for the food

Lovely pub with fantastic food. Great staffdefinatly recomended! great atmosphere and wonderful place for a large group of people. Located just outside of Braintree, but very easy to drive to and there own car park!
