Well I’m glad I visited this little hidden away gem! Hearing great things about it and reading over the delicious menu I decided to take a lunch time visit. I was not dissappointed at all. When I first went in it was a little busy but the server showed myself and my friends to a wee cosy area to have a look over the menu while she got us a table sorted. The menu offers a whole range of tasty choices from freshly made pancakes, homemade soup, fresh sandwiches and tasty sweet treats all reasonably priced. Once seated I ordered a smoked salmon sandwich with avacado. My one slight dissappointmet was I wasn’t offered white or brown bread: but that’s me just being picky. However, they were accommodating of my friends dairy intolerence and removed the mayo for her. The sandwich was gorgeous. Beautiful smoked salmon and fresh avacado on big wedges of farmhouse bread, with a small side salad. Definitely something to get your teeth stuck into and your taste buds tingling! And all for £6.95 We then ordered some tea and we got our money’s worth as we were given a big pot each with a cute little tea cup. Overall my experience was fantastic, lovely food with a quirky cosy setting and excellent service. The one let down was they did not have a card machine so we could only pay by cash.

The lunch is fine. I ordered a chicken sandwich, and it is not bad. But it is difficult to eat that. I would like to try the salmon salad next time:)))

DISCLAIMER: I worked briefly at the Hideaway but wrote both this update and the original review before taking on employment there. Hideaway, we meet again. Having had brunch here previously, heading here for lunch was something I was excited about. It was very busy this time round so service was understandably a little slower. We did have a short wait for a table but it really wasn’t long till we were seated considering it was peak lunching hour. Oh my word. Sandwich heaven. I had the bacon and mozzarella baguette with hot salsa and guacamole and it was absolutely delicious. Lots of cheese, lots of bacon, lots of yum. The Hideaway is just the perfect spot for tea and cake, I definitely want to sample their baked goods soon. Very, very soon!

Dear Santa, For Christmas this year I would like The Hideaway, please. I went to The Hideaway for brunch with the Stirling set and I wanted to keep it. It was, appropriately, hidden away, behind the supermarket. And I had to walk right around the other side of it to get to the front door, which is at the back. I liked that a lot. It felt like finding a secret. I think Rudolph and the other reindeer would all fit in here because it is quite big, although it doesn’t feel it. It still feels cosy. There’s also a nice snug bit with armchairs for you and the elves. Please can I also have the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup? They were perfect; so so lovely. Fluffy fluffy pancakes, the bacon cooked spot-on and the maple syrup… oh, Santa, it was so lovely. There was extra maple syrup and it came in a BUNNY! I held it by the tail and tipped, and more lovely syrup came streaming prettily out of its little white china mouth. I loved that bunny. And it was all such good value. Please, please, please bring me The Hideaway, complete with the lovely village it’s hiding in, and the Syrup Bunny, and the pancakes and the bacon. I have been ever so ever so good this year and I really would play with it all for a very long time. Thank you, Cressi

I love breakfast. There I said it! Ok so not that big a revelation, after all who doesn’t love breakfast. Not only is it the most awesome and versatile meal of the day it’s the opportunity to catch up with friends, share a meal together and still have the rest of the day to do as you wish. So when my friend recommended, «this cute wee tearoom wae sum great food» I was all up for finding out more about this place. Upon entering the staff were welcoming and very courteous. After seating us straight away, we were given some time to mull over the menu and take in what I have to say is some of the most eclectic yet charming décor. Think gran’s house mixed with hunting lodge, and throw in a dash of bizarre abstract design and you might just be able to picture it. I’ve seen people try this type of mismatch furniture and crockery before to much less success. There is a fine balance of random furniture mixed with purposeful design which set this little place apart. The food. Oh, the food. I saw the pancakes on the menu but decided against it. Too much of a good thing is bad for you, as they say. So I ordered the granola and fresh fruit. I was told a couple of minutes later, by none other than the owner herself, that there was no Granola, but if I was willing to wait she would quickly go get some. This was the window of opportunity I was looking for, and I seized it. I had an excuse to order pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. I would normally mark a place down for not having something on the menu and not mentioning it before an order is placed. But, the pancakes. I cannot remember the last time I has a stack of pancakes as nicely cooked as these. They were thick and rugged, yet so light and airy that they were perfectly fluffy without the heavy doughy texture some thick pancakes have. Slightly sweet, they were paired with perfectly cooked bacon and syrup. Food bliss. Tried both their coffee and their tea and both were really nice simple blends, which is just what you want on a Sunday morning. I couldn’t help but offer my compliments to the staff afterwards,(the first time I’ve ever felt the need to do that) and look forward to my next breakfast here.
