Athena B is a fish bar and chippy on Station Road in Portslade and is one of the better fish and chip shops in the area. They sell the full range of goodies although I usually plump for good old cod and chips. Of course, the name is a reference to the boat Athena B that was grounded on Brighton beach during a storm in the 1980s.

I usually say to myself that I need to eat healthier, and do away with eating Fish and Chips on an(almost) daily basis. But when I’m walking around town, taking pictures and such, I get hungry, and it’s hard to walk through town without passing by a Fish and Chips shop. And as I am someone who possesses a knowledge of basic mathematics, I know that«A Hungry Me + Fish and Chips = A Hungry Me eating Fish and Chips». I saw Athena B Fish Bar, and I just had to try it. Perhaps my taste buds have been numbed to the taste of fish, but the cod wasn’t as tasty as the other shops I’ve been to. You get a hefty portion of both cod and chips for under £5, and you receive the meal quickly. A decent experience, but not the best.

If I was to mark this chip shop with letters it wouldn’t get a B as the name suggests instead I would more likely give it an E, just passing. With the inside seating and on site parking it is easy to drop by and pick up dinner on the way home but if you have other options then choose them. When, I was taking photos of the shop they did seem a bit reluctant to help and seemed like they didn’t want me there which is surprising as my review could have helped them. The chips here are pretty good but I didn’t like the cod when I had a meal but that is just an opinion. Battered sausage and chips isn’t expensive and does fill a hole.
