This was my first visit to Bristol Bar and it was during the Kemp Town Carnival so it was hard to see the pub in its normal state but it was really busy and they had plenty of staff on hand to look after the crowds. There is a great view of the beach from the bar so I’m definitely going back — and I’ve heard that they do a great Sunday roast.

Hi, My wife and I visited the Bristol bar on Wednesday for lunch and we had a fabulous meal with excellent service. The table waiter, I think it was Chris was excellent with a courteous welcome and nothing too much trouble. We chose Sea bream at his suggestion and it was one of the best fish meals we have ever had. We will certainly return next time in Brighton and hopefully the same team are still there. Well done Bristol — great experience not expensive(apart from Peroni at £5.50!!) and dog friendly too! Pete & Sue

This is a bit weird really. This pub has tidied up it’s act over recent months. Now a nice, clean pub. The staff(all but one), stand out, as do the staff in The Thomas Kemp but one BIG let down is one of the owners. He is particularly unfriendly. I am, rather was, a regular there but you would think it’d kill him to say hello. This is a big shame, his partner is friendly but, unfortunately not seen in the pub as much. The grumpy one seems to overlook the day to day running. The food has sadly gone down the gastro pub road but, still a nice pub. The owner though,(or at least one of them), needs to show some respectful warmth to his customers and indeed his regulars. Well, I’m one regular who’s no longer going there. There’s far too many friendly, welcoming pubs in the area. The Rock Inn and the Thomas Kemp to name but two.

The thing I love the most about this pub is the interrupted view of the sea from the windows although it would appear you can’t step out onto the wonderful wrought-iron balconies but perhaps this is just because it was winter when I went? I’ve heard there is patio seating however, which makes this a vary popular spot in the warmer months. Inside, it’s much like being inside a boat, with wooden just-about-everything including oars and sea faring paraphernalia. There isn’t anything particularly fancy about this place, but I guess that is it’s charm. With a multitude of trendy bars and pub reinventions it’s nice to see an old favourite remaining staunch, unaffected and down to earth. Favourite quenchers include Bitter, Scrumpy Jack, Ruddles, Sussex Best, Bombardier, Carling and Stella. And if we’re on the subject, they do a stellar Sunday lunch.

A bit dated. I guess you’d call it traditional. The Sunday roasts, I haven’t tried but they look AMAZING! Dog friendly.

On the corner of Paston Place and Marine Parade, and underneath the scaffolding, is a place called The Bristol Bar. It’s location is grand, and on a sunny day, the windows allow the sunlight to peak through, providing a very comfortable atmosphere. It would be all well and good if I were a pub goer. I, however, am not. My flatmate introduced me to the concept of pub crawling. And this was one pub that we crawled to. It was a bit too loud for my liking, but was told that loudness was something that is attached to the activity of pub crawling. They have a wide selection of cheap drinks and a friendly staff who can easily assess when someone’s uncomfortable. «Not enjoying it, are you?» said one member to me. I shook my head: No, and remained quiet, which was the exact opposite of what was going on around me.

FIVESTAR: The best thing about this place is the amazing Sunday Roast… All home cooked and absolutley delicious, surely the best roast in Brighton and for only £7 its a baragin. the rest of the pub is quite local, with funny regulars tat prop up the bar. Massive large windows looking out over the sea. Understated, relaxing and great for sunday roast! i also hear they throw themed parties such as a Bugsy Malone themed NYE party in 2009…
