Conveniently located very near my flat(not that that is relevant to any of you, but it it only 6 minutes away woo!), I popped into Coggings and Co when I was supposed to be going for a run but decided I wanted to eat an amazing burger instead. I had heard good things, not least that they catered to the gluten free crowd. So I popped in and had a burger, the beef dripping fries and a drink. It was very good. It’s definitely a bit more«upmarket» I suppose than my regular burger joint in Brighton. I’d compare the two by saying that I’d go to the other place to stuff my face with something greasy and indulgent, while I would be more likely to pick Coggings & Co for a ever so slightly formal dinner… or like the kind of date where you’re still trying to impress, but be casual, but you’re not afraid to eat a burger in front of them, but you don’t want to have grease flowing down your face because you still need to be pretty and smell nice after. That.

Probably a 2.5 among my family. A large group of us ate here — more than a dozen — as an extended family reunion. My eldest(who considers himself a burger connoisseur) gave it a 3.5 as did my wife. he said it was bland. I agree — not just bland but fancy fru-fru with a burned bun — a pet peeve of mine. If you burn the bun to put a logo in it, expect me to be annoyed. My youngest gave it a 1, due to them putting unwanted mayonnaise on his food. All in all, was underwhelmed. The prices seemed steep, the food too bland to warrant the pretensions.

We are currently spoilt for choice with burger outlets in Brighton at the moment. After eating at most of them I think that Coggings and Co. is defiantly one of the better ones. I have eaten there a couple of times now and I have never been disappointed. You can choose how you like your burger cooked which I like. I usually go for the burger with honey glazed streaky bacon which is delicious. Its price well for what you get, everything is handmade and locally sourced. The food is no more expensive then what you would expect to pay in a decent pub. The restaurant is also clean and stylish with a relaxed atmosphere.

Have been here 3 times now. The burgers are really good and they do proper chips cooked in beef dripping. Sides are nice especially the corn on the cob and the courgette fritters. Great friendly service. Today we sat in the lovely garden which was perfect in the sun. I loved the chocolate torte I had for dessert and my husband enjoyed his dessert from the specials board which was a raspberry & passion fruit eton mess. I didn’t like the house white wine but the waitress changed this for me without any issue so that was good.

Having heard great things about this place, I thought it was finally time that I came for a meal at my local burger place in Seven Dials. I was very pleased to hear that all the options on the menu here are interchangeable, so even someone who(like me) doesn’t eat beef can come here and enjoy a variety of meals. I had a delicious chicken burger with goats cheese and guacamole in a toasted brioche bun, some crunchy chips and small side salad. We followed up the delightful main meal with a peanut butter and chocolate ice cream sundae. The food was excellent and reasonably priced, and the service was friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend a trip here if you’re a fan of good quality burgers, especially if you like mixing and matching your flavour combinations.

Coggins and co… Coggins and co… Ehhhh God I kinda don’t know what to say. I found the whole experience, only a little above average. I was expecting amazing things tho, so I couldn’t help but be disappointed. I had the chicken burger which was probably not the best choice, but they had me at garlic mayo. It was nice, I’m not gona lie. The radicchio was delish. Bitter, brittle, bites of yum. Defo gona steal that for my burgers at home. Thanks guys ;) Chips were nothing special. Not a strong beef flavour, considering they were Ment to be beef dripping flavour. Onion rings were guuuuuud. Oh god I love onion rings. Perfectly crisp, moist, flavoursome rings. The place is cool. Chilled and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were very nice and helpfull. I enjoyed my experience. But I think the bottle of wine, and my wonderful company were the main contributors to this. Soz guys only 3 from me :)

My most recent visit to Coggings & Co. was by no means my first, and most certainly won’t be my last. I think I can actually count said visits on two hands now, which is pretty impressive considering they’ve only been open since April. Coggings & Co. pride themselves on serving ‘simply the best burgers in the county’, which is a pretty tall order when you consider that they are up against some pretty stiff competition — Burger Brother’s and the mighty Troll have both set up grill down the road… Well the good news, especially for those who prefer to sit down to eat their meal and not out of paper, is that Coggings’ steps up to the plate and delivers in just about every way I can think of. I could go on talking about everything that is wonderful about this place, but we’d be here all night, so I’ll cut to the chase and tell you about the rightful star of the show… the burgers! The selection is varied, without being overwhelming, and it’s obvious that this is a considered menu, with classic burgers like the 6oz beef, coastal cheddar, tomato, mayonnaise, dill pickles and salad(£10.50) sitting alongside more unusual offerings such as the 6oz beef, mushroom tapenade, Harvey’s rarebit and English mustard mayonnaise(£11.50). On my most recent visit I opted for the special — a 6oz burger with Bowyers Canterbury Brie, honey-glazed streaky bacon, plum chutney and mayonnaise(£11.50). Now I think you’ve already guessed from the tone of this review, but the burger was bloody fantastic. Sandwiched between a soft glazed brioche bun, the freshly ground beef supplied by Redlands Farm, cooked medium, was oozing with juices and melt in the mouth. Deliciously flavoursome, it was complimented by each and every one of its accompaniments — flavours were balanced perfectly, nothing overpowering. Each burger is served on a board with a simple salad and triple-cooked chips(cooked in a choice of beef dripping or organic vegetable oil — natch). You simply MUST order the onion rings as well. With a meal for two with sides, drinks and a tip coming to around the £40 mark, there really is no excuse not to venture up to the Seven Dials and savour Mr Coggings’ culinary delights for yourself. Reliably delicious, and championing local produce at an affordable price, Coggings & Co. is the rightful heir to the Brighton Burger Crown.

Coggings and Co is a fantastic new addition to the Seven Dials area. Their ethos is simple, make the best possible burgers, using local produce and to be as sustainable as possible. Andrew Coggings, former owner of the Preston Park Tavern, which was a Sustainable Pub of the year winner, is very much heading that way with his new gourmet burger restaurant. Attention to detail is important here, as is the comfortable décor and a friendly and welcoming environment. The tables are made with recycled wood, there are bare brick walls, and beautiful photography of iconic characters around Brighton throughout the restaurant. There is a lovely little sun trap courtyard out the back for the warmer summer months, although some evenings they have to shut early due to close by neighbours. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by friendly staff, and seated with in house filtered water. The menu consists of burgers, with a couple of salads and sides to accompany them, and there are always a couple of specials on the blackboards, usually one meat, one vegetarian. All of the burgers are available to be gluten free, and they have wonderful gluten free buns from Sussex Bread Company, that hold up to the fillings really well, but more about that soon. As I have been here many of times, I have developed a favourite, which is the 6oz beef with mustard rarebit and mushroom tapanade. The rarebit comes oozing down the side of the burger, and the mushroom tapanade is delicious and goes so well with the beef. The beef has always comes rare, so do ask if you would like it cooked a little more. As I cannot eat wheat, I always order the gluten free bun, and it is soft and springy, not too dense, but dense enough to not fall apart in your hands and can soak up the sauce and juice within. The burgers are served on wooden boards, and come with the most delicious salad leaves I have ever eaten, and a side of triple cooked chips which you can either have cooked in vegetable oil, or beef dripping. The beef dripping chips have always been my choice, and are crunchy and thick with amazing flavour. My partner usually orders the chicken burger, with crispy bacon, avocado and salad and loves it every time. The Chicken breast is always moist and succulent, and the avocado is very tasty. I haven’t been with anyone that has ordered the vegetarian burgers, so would love to hear someone else’s feedback, as they do all sound great! The drinks are all local too, except the wine is from all over the world. The Sauvignon Blanc is particularly delicious. Definitely pop by to Coggings and Co when you can, the burgers are slightly more than your usual place, but they do come with chips and it’s totally worth it! Great for kids too, their kid’s selection is a good deal, very creative and thoughtful.
