Don’t assume that, simply because it has ‘records’ in the title, this is a standard record shop. Dance 2 Records reminds me of Koop’s jungle record shop in the film Human traffic. Never can you pass by without hearing the bassy thump of some break beat or house. Stocking a collection of strictly DJ friendly music like drum n bass and electro it’s a great place for beat enthusiasts. However, the general vibe is if you’re not already into the scene then don’t waste our time. Their large selection of hardware is probably the biggest attraction, as you can get everything from slip-mats to PAs.

Dance 2 Records certainly have it all. They have all the gear that you need and media in every format necessary for taking out and using in the live environment. Not only that but they’re also packing the stroppy urban attitude that the whole dance and drum and bass scene puts out as its’ image. But hang on, wait a minute, every Drum and Bass producer I’ve ever met and worked with has been really cool and easy going. So why was it that when I paid a visit to this place a year or so ago to enquire if they knew anyone who would be interested in working with a love funk band the woman behind the counter was so utterly rude to me? Needless to say this was only one member of staff and it was only a year ago now so maybe things have changed now, but I’ve never since been able to bring myself to return.

I remember when Dance 2 first started up as I used to buy records there. There’s been a lot of record(vinyl) shops going out of business over the last few years or so and its nice to see one still thriving after so long! I guess its because they offer the whole enchilada; records, decks, phones PA systems etc that they’ve done so well. For any small business to survive these days though, you need to have exceptional customer service skills and this where the guys at Dance 2 really stand out.

Bring the noize!!! A one-stop shop for established and amateur deejays, Dance 2 is a record and equipment shop specialising in decks, amps, mixers and speakers. They stock all the big names — Numark, Ortofan, Stanton, Technics, Pioneer & Vestax — and sell all the bits and bobs you could need for from spare needles, cartridges and headphones to record boxes and flight cases. Handily, they also have a small selection of new and old techno, drum n bass, electro, breaks and hip hop 12“s too. If you don’t want to buy your own decks yet, they also rent equipment out and have disco equipment, sound &PA systems and lights you can hire for parties, festivals or special events. Time for a block party I think!

ALWAYSSUPPORTYOURLOCALRECORDSHOP! They’re a dying breed, but so important to real music lovers. CD decks and illegally downloaded MP3’s are killing the music scene. This place is not only widely stocked with all the latest dance vinyl. Predominantly drum and bass(all genres), but also stocking dubstep, house, breaks and everything in between. Staff always very friendly and knowledgeable. They also hire out decsks, sound and lighting rigs in addition to selling tickets for local and national events. If you love your vinyl, then you must make the trip along Western Rd.
